I'm still lukewarm on the name. Guess its going to take time to adjust to it. And the Hollywood theme is kinda muddled... Here we go on another theme debate :)

Question: Is MGM really going open it's own park? Isn't that why they took the name back?
I like the logo, but I feel it should have just been called the Studios and just kept it at that. It seems to much of what they have planed for the park has gotten away from the Hollywood theme.

I think the problem is that the park was a reaction to Universal Studios, which already is just barely a "theme" park. Can anyone really name the "lands" at Universal Orlando?

The same problem exists at the Disney Studios. There are no obviously themed "lands". Aerosmith is next to the Tower of Terror why?

There could have at least been a Musicland and a Televisionland and such, although they should probably have been grouped by some more interesting element. Seriously, other than the "Main Street" section, everything really feels like a mishmosh of elements, just like a Six Flags park that someone spent a lot of money on.

All you need to do is look at somewhere like Islands of Adventure or Tokyo DisneySeas (or the other WDW parks, of course) to see how much a great theme makes the whole experience so much more immersive and special.

Come to think of it, I kind of like plain old "Disney Studios" much better, too. Wonder why they chose Hollywood Studios? Have they already made it official?

Hey thanks! It took me forever to figure out how to do that. Still working on it! I'll be sure to check in. I'm always happy to have a new Disney buddy! :)

This park holds a special place for me as it is the one I worked in while on College Program. I am glad to see the new name change, and glad to get a competitor's name out of the Disney parks logo.

I never thought about it as a "competitor's name" before. Now there's food for thought.

I'm not good with change, I still like MGM studios. I do like the font they chose for the new logo though. Maybe I'll warm up to it in time?!

I kinda agree. I think it sums the place up a little better and it rolls of the tongue a little quicker. Not as good as MGM though.

Not sure about the new Logo at all. Like others I like the font and general style.....but the name bothers me.

And as an addition could we move that big hat thing it spoils the view as you enter the park.

Now that I think about it, why even include "Studios" in the name? It's evident that the studio concept sucks, and things like the Tower and Fantasmic! have nothing to do with the studio theme at all.

The park just about completely loses its identity at that point, because it's not a movie park and all parks are basically "entertainment" parks, but dropping the "Studios" would be a good first step and hopefully make people forget about the Universal connection. I'd love to see a theme reformat that aims high, and gives Imagineers something to shoot for.

Would you call it Disney's Hollywood? That could work. I actually dont mind DHS as much as I thought I would

Hmm.

Are Aerosmith and Fantasmic! really Hollywood? I suppose the Hollywood is more applicable to most of the attractions than the Studios, but Hollywood implies movies and it's not exactly a movies park.

I was hoping for a brand new concept, something like DisneySea where the theme was broad enough to allow for almost anything, but at the same time allows for much more coherent theming than the current park.

Going by Disney's breakdown, you have 4 "lands" in the Studios: Backlot, Mickey Avenue Animation Courtyard, Hollywood Boulevard, and Sunset Boulevard.

Backlot is a lame theme and is a mixed bag of the kinda-sorta behind-the-scenes motif and miscellanea. The animation section has only a couple things that have anything to do with animation. Sunset Boulevard has at least California-flavored attractions, and Fantasmic!.

Only Hollywood Boulevard sticks to the theme (though it is mostly shops and restaurants), so I guess the Hollywood part is the closest thing to any kind of "core" the park has, but the MK isn't all about Mainstreet USA, so even that isn't much to hang the whole concept on.

Not sure what I'd do, but I guess it would start with a serious brainstorming session.

After thinking hard about this, I think the theme of Hollywood would work for most of the park. My reason being this: the stars on Hollywood Blvd. are given out for film, radio, theater and television (I think there's one more that eludes me right now). All these areas are covered within DHS. That being said, I prefer Schnemo's and meticulus's "Disney's Hollywood" as the new park name.
