Hidden Fees at Grosvenor Resort

Post by delray » Jan Wed 25, 2006 11:30 am

We extended our stay at Disney World over the Marathon weekend, but could only get a reservation at the Grosvenor Resort. We were told the room charge would be $106 per night. When we got there they tacked on a $9 per day resort fee! Very deceptive! Needless to say we will not ever stay there again! Has anyone else run into this situation at a Downtown Disney Resort?

Regards,
Delray

The Grosvenor resort is located on Hotel Plaza Blvd. near Downtown Disney. We had a bad experience there before also. I would never stay at that resort again! :x

Is it a Disney Hotel or is it run by someone else? What is a "resort fee"?

I'm sure that the resort is run by someone else and not Disney, but I can't remember who. It is located on Disney property.

Lots of hotels have resort fees. They're a scam and I think it's been a way to get some money back when internet booking places discount their rooms

Being an ex-travel agent & airline employee for 10 yrs........there are a lot of undisclosed fees within the travel & leisure world. One of the biggest complaints from travelers is the added hotel fees that are not mentioned when you book. If you book online, you can see the small print that states all the added fees. The biggest complaint that I have heard over the years is the resort fees. Supposedly they say that it helps pay the housekeeping staff since tips are not given, etc., etc. & yaddy yadda. If you ever looked at any of your hotel bills you will find a resort fee but maybe called something else, because it is pretty much an industry standard, not just exclusive to this hotel, and most will not tell you about the fees, you only know it when you go to check out unfortunately :x
Here is an article that talks about the different fees that can are commonly used at hotels.

We had a horrible experience at the Grosvenor...the absurd bus system they have is reason enough to just stay at an official Disney Resort. Never again will I stay off property!

Downtown Disney hotel bus transportation is so much better than really off-property hotels bus transportation

We only stayed off Disney once, we hated it! If we are travelling all that way to go to Disney and spending such an amount of money anyway we feel that its worth the difference to stay in a Disney resort! I'd rather save up for an extra month or so to make up the difference.

DVC is the best investment my family ever made! It's a superb value, and grows in value every year!

Eversince I found out that you can use your DVC points in DLR I have been thinking of doing it. Plus getting an Annual Pass to boot.

Whoa! I didn't know that! How long have you been able to use them at Disneyland? It's one of the main factors that's been keeping me from Anaheim!

I don't know but a DVC member told me recently. And I think I asked a Vaction Club Sales Person(you know the ones, they're also in those little kiosks) on my last trip, or was that about which resorts you can stay at. But I did hear it.
