No, actually I think you're both right. It is what Wizzard says, but your take on it is probably where it came from in the first place, now that I think about it. It is meant to express an intensity of interest in something. When someone is really into something, it becomes almost "po*n" to them in the way that some people really get hooked on real po*n. I've seen websites devoted to violent war video, and they get referred to as "war po*n", for example. So when hipsters use "pr0n" for whatever, they're expressing the thought without having to resort to a dirty word that could likely trigger some online filters. Don't know why it didn't occur to me before....Amy wrote:OH!Wizzard419 wrote:Actually "Pr0n" is the trendy/slang way to categorize any type of photograpic documentation of a specific topic, if you use the other spelling then people should be having sex during it. The use of the bad/off spelling and the number also stems from the late 90's early 2000's with wareaz groups.
Anwyay, I would photograph my candied orange peels but they are not done yet since they are going in a bread tomorrow.
Oh, Jacca... with persimions, are the ones you use/cook with soft fleshed or crisp fleshed? The ones I have are sweet and flavorful but have a texture similar to a firm pear.

Ah! Thanks for the explanations everyone! I too was wondering about that...I just figured I wasn't cool enough to know what it meantMousekedude wrote:No, actually I think you're both right. The persimmons that grow wild here are the small soft fleshed type and are very sweet. I believe the persimmons you are talking about are the large Asian type and aren't as sweet.Wizzard419 wrote:The use of the bad/off spelling and the number also stems from the late 90's early 2000's with wareaz groups.

They probably are, the part that is confusing me a little is the shape. The ones I get dired at the Japanese market (I punch old ladies and children to get them during Christmas) are the oblong pointy ones but these ones are smaller and more round and crazy sweet. I found that eating them like a mango (with some lime juice) made them more balanced in flavor.
I might try roasting them to see if that makes them more user friendly for other dishes.

Nah, it's ok I need to see what I can do with them first. Their final destination may simply be to dry out on a rack in my backyard. They turn all brown and get a dusty coating, they almost look spoiled but they become really tasty. The same market where I punch old women and children at Christmas is also the only place I've ever seen (in California) that roasts chestnuts fresh for sale.

Re: Food Pr0n!
All righty, lets see. I think I will do this in 2 posts.
So here are some photos from Thanksgiving day foods, on weds I made a batch of brioche dough which made a batch of the brioche rolls, a chocolate chip bread, a panettone, and 2 pans of cinnamon rolls (one baked thanksgiving morning the other is baked christmas morning).

One of the secrets I found to make the cinnamon rolls even better is to add a little salt to the brown sugar and cinnamon mix, it makes the cinnamons stand out more.

Re: Food Pr0n!
Ok so for appetizers we had baked brie with carrots and pear chutney, the bread was actually not needed at all, as well as goose pâté (darn hippes won't let me have the liver in this state) with heirloom tomatoes from the garden, pickles. and cucumber.

For dinner we had a chateaubriand (not really fans of turkey outside of the breast being used for a sandwich) with a red wine and mushroom sauce, served with potato casserole and spanakopita. I'm not actually sure how they got there and we've never made them before, but they were good and actually much lighter than other traditional spinach sides. Between the starters and the richness of the food no one could get past a slice of beef so there are tons of leftovers.

And finally, there was chocolate bourbon peacan pie served with kirschwasser, and pumpkin pie served with spiked coffee.

Now it's your turn, what was on your Thanksgiving menu? Bonus points if you can show people doing shots of gravy.

Wizzard - I'll pm you the address to send those leftovers.
Nothing extensive here. Just a 20lb bird, homemade mac & cheese, homemade rolls (for the first time and will be a tradition from now on), fresh green beans and garlic, sweet potato casserole, Turkey gravy from scratch (good but not worth the hassle) and canned cranberry sauce.
Sorry, no pictures. I didn't think about it until everything was carved and served.

Wow ~ your food looked yummy! Dessert looked the best
Our menu has quite a variety with 20+ people that attend ~ highlights included a fantastic salad with about 8000 different fresh veges in it, yummy homemade stuffing and awesome creamy mashed potatoes. No photos...whoops
