It's so refreshing to be spared jokes about bodily functions, pop culture references (except for relatively subtle homages to classic films), wise-cracking sidekicks, and all the other depressing garbage so prevalent in "kids" movies these days. This is actually an unqualified good movie, not just a good kiddie flick.
I agree. Saw Wall-E Friday night (got a babysitter to go see a Pixar film, go figure)... Both my wife and I liked it quite a bit. For what littld dialogue there was and for it being a little longer in length than many animated films I never looked at my watch once.
I actually had no issues with the underlying social messaging. Two very true issues with the world today are our "throw away" mentality and general obesity on the rise (I don't mean that to be rude - it's a real statistic). That message needs to be put out there and understood. I thought the ship captains photos over time were a great detail.
Plust the Sci-Fi references, especially to 2001 were also great. Minus dreadful memories of Short Circuit 2, I had a great time and experience.
And the short prior to the movie is worth the price of admission by itself.
As for the Disney preview, I agree, not too enticing. Though, MTR was better than I expected, too.
