Correct. Thankfully no guests were with Austin at the time. Right now, no guests are allowed up front, but time will tell if it's for good or temporary.

Its a good thing the family onboard had 6 members and a stroller, or they probably would have been up front.

More speculation from an engineer here, but if Austin hadn't brought Purple to a stop the combined speed of Pink's 15 MPH and Purple's speed could have been as much as 30-40 MPH, causing much more damage and potentially really hurting or killing the guests onboard Purple. He most likely saved the guests lives. I think that sets this tragedy apart from the other cast member deaths throughout Disney history.

Lives were saved because of the action of a cast member.

He was so young too...that part really hurts me the most as he was only 21, he still had many years to enjoy.
I know this is probably your first flight...and it's mine too...ha, ha

So, can guests be in the front during the day? I have a 4 yr old and this will be his first trip to WDW. I was hoping to get him up front for one of the monorail trips.

As of right now, no.

I want to vent one problem I have because of this accident. I am sick and tired of people jumping on the bandwagon when a tragedy strikes. Some of you posted links to news stories (thanks). Being from STL, I don't get as good of coverage as a local.

It peeved me off when I saw a reporter imply they need regulation because of the potential for abuse by the employer. REALLY? Just to get the headlines and an extra 1/10 of 1% of a ratings boost.

I detest sensationalism.

I just wish they would report the good; from all over.

The manager should have been fired on the spot when they found out they were not even on property!!!
This post really hit home for me. Mad Eye, you work for Disney and you know much more than I do about Disney, but I totally agree with what you said. It may be late, may even be the middle of the night, but you've got to stay until you're done for the night.

You want to talk about sensationalism? You should watch the Orlando news networks. It is all they talk about, every broadcast they show the pictures of the two trains and talk about how there is nothing new to report. They just want to keep it relevant in case there is something to report someday. The media makes me sick, journalists have sold their souls, but that is a different topic.

Exactly. I've never even heard of a manager going off property, although I wouldn't doubt some of my former Monorails managers would do it in a heartbeat!!!

Have there been any new developments on this? I haven't heard anything for a while.

The pilots mother is trying to get a court order so Disney can't "destroy" any evidence. What, exactly, she doesn't want "destroyed" is beyond me, though.

More than likely, she will sue (rightfully so IMO) and Disney will settle long before it reaches a court room.

I'm not surprised by that one bit. Thanks for the update! Being out west, we don't get much info...

Perhaps evidence that Disney no longer required pilots to move to the back cab to switch lines. If they sent out a memo or had a bulletin posted someone, it makes them liable. If there is nothing in writing, they can say it was the pilot of pink's fault for not following procedure. Of course, everyone who thinks they can get something out of this will do so...its unfortunate how our society thinks they can sue for any little thing (hot coffee anyone?)

As stated by MadEye on Saturday July 11, guests weren't being allowed to travel in the driver's cabins as of that time. I am wondering if in light of the accident and seeing how such a low speed accident can cause such damage and injury, will Disney stop allowing riders in the front cabins?
Are we there yet? When can we go back?

I don't know what's worse, the anticipation of going or the withdrawals after getting home.
