I know F.Y.E. has a few larger stores (maybe not quite as large as Virgin, though). Best Buy would be an interesting choice. They'd fill that space with no problem. It'd be interesting to see how many people would buy TVs or computers while on vacation...

Wouldn't that building be too big for a Best Buy? Wasn't Virgin a 2 floor building (I haven't been there much to realize if it was or not). Arent most Best Buys 1 floor? But they do have a high roof I guess.
I know this is probably your first flight...and it's mine too...ha, ha

FYE is a store that came to my mind also. I know they are on a similar platform so it would not involve much restructuring and remodeling of the building.js3901 wrote:I know F.Y.E. has a few larger stores (maybe not quite as large as Virgin, though). Yeah, the same here. In fact, I only know of one F.Y.E. I only thought it was one of those stores that's only in malls. Guess I was wrong lol. Meh, I wouldn't like to see Best Buy take over the Virgin Store in Downtown Disney. Maybe Disney should just buy that one out in Downtown Disney and change the name. That way it will staypackwingfn wrote:The only FYE stores around here are in Malls. I have never seen a big FYE Store the size of the Virgin Store.

PI anyone? So far in half a year, the only thing that is opening soon is a South American food restaurant (like there aren't that many in Central Florida already and over priced probably) that I won't eat at. I say bring back Adventurers Club and Comedy Warehouse and PI and West Side (after Virgin is gone) won't be such a ghost town. Oh, well. At least the movie theater isn't going anywhere...figmentaholic wrote:But who knows? Disney would be fools to let it stay empty long.. or at all. I know they know that.

Well, I was mostly kidding about Best Buy (and the world's biggest Starbucks), but I guess another store in that genre is a possibility. I would wonder, though, if another chain like that would want in considering the Virgin store there obviously wasn't profitable enough to sustain it. I mean, they had a huge crowd there, but apparently not enough people were actually buying things to keep the place open. I don't see why it would be any different with a Mega Best Buy or F.Y.E, right?
I think the things that do the most business on the West Side are the restaurants, Wolfgang and House of Blues probably being the leaders. If they wanted to do a lot of refitting to the building, it'd give H.o.B a nice big venue for their performances.

That is where this turns a little crazy. Supposedly the virgin store is profitable, but it is not as profitable as the company that owns it wants it to be.DisBeamer wrote:Well, I was mostly kidding about Best Buy (and the world's biggest Starbucks), but I guess another store in that genre is a possibility. That is kind of fascinating, thinking what the HOB could do with that kind of space. I can imagine that they could get some really big bands in a bigger venue like that... but I just have a feeling that right now, with the economy taking, they don't want to risk the capital to do it.
It is a shame, because it could really be something cool.

That works out to the same thing, in business, though. If the profit margin isn't high enough, then it's not profitable enough to keep the store open. I guess if Virgin has crazy-higher profit expectations than, say, Best Buy, though, that might make a similar genre store more of a possibility.Len90 wrote:That is where this turns a little crazy. I really think something in a performance venue would be the best fit for the West Side, and probably increase sales in the other stores by extension. As you say, though, I'm not sure the current economy is going to have people rushing to pay what I assume is exorbitant rent for the location.figmentaholic wrote:That is kind of fascinating, thinking what the HOB could do with that kind of space. Re: Virgin Megastore
I wonder how many of the chain stores are suffering/closed at DtD? Back when they built the megastore (90's right?) it was a great idea since people from smaller towns may not have access to as great a selection. Now that amazon is there with comperable or cheaper prices the stores are drying up. The last time I bought a CD at any physical location(yes I buy CDs because I feel stupid paying the same/similar price for just the data) was when I was only hours away from getting on a plane and wanted to load it on my iphone so I could listen to it in flight.
