Dr. Randy Pausch Medallion at Magic Kingdom

Post by elizabethswann » Feb Tue 10, 2009 7:24 pm

Those words honoring Dr. Randy Pausch adorn the plaque place outside the Mad Tea Cups attraction at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Pausch was a Carnegie Mellon professor, Disney Imagineer, and family man known for his “last lectureâ€

I am currently reading the Last Lecture for the first time right now and I'm liking it. I'm glad Disney is honoring his legacy :)

Yea I heard that was a favorite attraction of the family. I think it's great Disney did this for his memory.

You can also watch the Last Lecture on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo

I actually work at the institution where Dr. Pausch taught. He's been an inspiration to so many; we're glad we could share him and his message with with the rest of the world!

I remember seeing this program on PBS over the summer. they were even offering a DVD of this lecture, which I can't (for the life of me) find.

Many if my friends have felt his message was so powerful we've given the book to our college children to read.

It actually takes you to links on the abcnews.com website.

You can order a copy of the DVD here: https://www.randypauschdvd.com/ Carnegie Mellon isn't making any money off of the sale of the DVD's, the price charged is only enough to cover the cost of production and S&H.

Here's a site with a whole bunch of other Randy Pausch-related links: http://www.cmu.edu/randyslecture/

No, sadly I never had the chance to meet Dr. Pausch. Ironically, I actually had it on my calendar to go and see him deliver the Last Lecture in person, but I ended up being too busy with work that day and had to cancel. It's a very sad irony when you think about the message he delivered that day.

I was, however, about 20 feet away from him when he made his last appearance on campus: he delivered the "charge to the graduates" during the 2008 commencement ceremony. His appearance, words, and presence totally upstaged the actual commencement speaker...who was Al Gore!! Not too many people can steal the show from Mr. Gore, but Randy sure did!

That's really neat. I'm glad they've done something to honor his memory and promote that kind of a message. :)

I have a picture of the memorial. Wonderful way for Disney to pay tribute to such a great man.

Though I'd think the memorial would've been at the Aladdin ride since he helped Imagineer it..... but I suppose there wasn't enough room, perhaps?
