Astro obitor de orbiting

Post by Junglecsipper » Feb Sun 08, 2009 8:40 pm

I have heard a rumor (and remember this is purly rumor) that the astro orbitor will be removed in may. The resoning is repairing cost are just to high and the astro orbitor takes a lot of repiar. Now if in fact the astro orbitor is going to close Disney would put the old rocket jet renamed the astro orbitor on top of the people mover platform. Below is a pic of what will be replacing the astro orbitor on the pm platform.

I've only gone on the Astro Orbitor a few times but I hope that they do bring back the Rocket Jets. Of course we're all hoping for the Peoplemover instead but one can dream.

I like that you can still ride them at WDW, but the elevators (gantry lifts) are the worst part of the experience and I remember them being that way at DL too. They need to pipe some "mission control" chatter in there and get people excited before "lift off".
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

The queue/elevators are dreadful at WDW. There is nothing that makes you feel more like cattle than waiting for the AstroOrbiter.
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I'll be a bit sad if Astro Orbitor leaves Disneyland...it's a lot more fun than Dumbo because it tilts and has a bit of a thrill factor. Plus it's lovely to get a great view of Disneyland from it too. Wouldn't mind if they put it back where it originally was but it's highly unlikely they will.

Would that be for both parks Disney Land and Disney World? I remember that ride too! I've never gone on it due to my spinning motion sickness issues. I was about 10 and my dad took me on the tea cups....spun way too many times and now I won't go on any spinning rides anymore.

For now, I've only heard rumors about it for the DLR one. I'm not sure if there's anything about the WDW.

I think if they put this ride back to the way it originally was...it would stick out and look out of place. I think Tomorrowland is rather cartoonish looking now, whereas the Tomorrowland of the past to me is what Disney thought the future was going to look like. Does anyone else think this too??? I like the original version though!

I have no idea either. Dumbo would be more expensive since it's an older ride, wouldn't it?

Yes, that doesn't sound right. Repair cost? What would make it more expensive then any of the other up and down rides. It seems there are people at Disney corporate that just don't like tomorrowland.

Actually Dumbo isn't that old. It was refurbed completely when Fantasyland was rebuilt back in the 83. They upgraded the entire structure and expanded it to 16 ride vehicles instead of the original 10.

Actually Dumbo was replaced in 1990. The 1983 version colasped. Any who, it is more expencive because it is taller and the rotating planets are hard to keep rotating. Before the planets used to move up and down side to side but now it just rotates in one direction.
