Race to Witch Mountain

Post by emnbensdad » Feb Sun 01, 2009 9:31 pm

Okay. I just saw the trailer for "Race to Witch Mountain" which is scheduled to be released 3/13/09.

Being a big fan of the original Witch Mountain movies, I was excited to see that there was a new one coming out. The original Tia and Tony are supposed to be in it (if I spoil it . . . sorry).

Anyone else excited about this one?

I am excited to see a movie, from how long ago, come back to big budget Hollywood. It takes me back to being a little kid and watching the Wonderfull World of Disney on TV, back when we had only 3 channels and the were static-ie.

(in my best curmudgeon voice) These kids don't know how good they have it.

I don't know much about it, except my cousin was an extra in it, I believe. I never saw the original versions either...heard the new ones are pretty different?

I've never scene the original. This one looks good, does it have anything to do with the original?

It's been a long time since I've even watched the originals (and I think my mom has a copy of Escape somewhere) so I'd want to watch them before considering to see this one.

I don't know about that. I find that I am more disappointed with a remake if I watch the original first. That was the case with the Women, the Day the Earth Stood Still and the Stepford Wives (of course this last one would have disappointed me regardless if I had seen the original).

I'll admit that the original movies were "cheesey" by today's standards. "Escape . ." (1975) and "Return . . " (1978) weren't exactly on the cutting edge of special effects.

Having seen the trailer for the new one (http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/racetowitchmountain), special effects rule. There are also appearances by Ike Eisenmann (Tony) and Kim Richards (Tia) from the orginal movies.

I've never seen the originals. They probably have them on Disney Movie Club, though. That is something I will check out!

The originals were on TCM in December. The special effects were cheesy compared to today's movies. But when I first watched them in the 70's they were new. And I was a kid then and thought the movie was cool. I am not interested in the new movie. Disney hasn't released a fairly good live action movie since Pirates. I am waiting for Pixar's Up.

My DW got copies of both movies. Can anybody guess what we're doing Sat. night?
