Well While I'm staying out there I will be calculating my distance....with my brothers iphone, unfortunately BlackBerry's don't have an pedometer app (at least that I know of).boilerbabe wrote:WOW, thanks Dr. Ravenscroft! That was a HUGE help!!! I think if we do get to go, we might just stay at a "good neighbor"hotel. If we can walk, that would be great and help. I don't think we'll have many days there, so we need to maximize our time!!!

No, they only have one price. No seasonal pricing, but the hotels might have something like that, to try and attract for guests. They also will offer more deals during certain times of the year, like the Everyone gets in for the price of a child deal going on now I think???? not sure on that last one, haven't had a need to check it out recently.

If you are going to stay at a Good Neighbor hotel, I have ALWAYS had good luck at the Candy Cane and Tropicana, they are literally right across the street. But whatever you do, DO NOT stay at the Motel 6 on Disney Way. It was beyond grose and I wrote to Disney about it. *shivers* I can't tell you what a bad experience it was! So not clean!
ANYHOO.......if I go back again, I would stay at the CC or Tropicana, cause we were hardly ever in the room and they are clean hotels
I would love to stay at the Disneyland Hotel, lots of good memories for me with that place

I'm curious, how big are the rooms at the Tropicana? We have stayed at the Candy Cane in a deluxe room and am wondering the difference in size between the two. We always need a rollaway and it is a tight fit at candy cane. Do you think the rooms at the Tropicana are big enough for a rollaway to fit?disneydreamer58 wrote:If you are going to stay at a Good Neighbor hotel, I have ALWAYS had good luck at the Candy Cane and Tropicana, they are literally right across the street. Ok, I'm getting really excited, it's looking really good for a DL trip in Sept. or Oct. Huge change in plans, we might be going to Hawaii for my mom's 60th, she hasn't been well these last two years, she's been struggling with an autoimmune disease and has had some really frustrating things going on in her life, so she really wants to celebrate. We will only have a short stop over in DL, but I want to take advantage of whatever time I would have there!!! I've never been! I can't wait to be able to post my timeline
Anyway, any tips you guys can give me are greatly appreciated!!!
I'm torn, should we stay in DL resort or a friendly neighbor hotel?!
I have another question that I'll just tack onto here, I was on the DL web site just now and couldn't find anything...does DL have the Magical Express?! How do you get from the airport to the hotels?! I'm sorry if this is a silly question, I'm totally ignorant when it comes to DL.

I think they are about the same size if memory serves me correctly. It's usually just 2 of us in the room, so I can't remember about the size sorry.disneylandmom wrote:I'm curious, how big are the rooms at the Tropicana? I think they have something alone the lines of Magical Express, but I don't know if it costs money, or if it even exists. I have taken Super Shuttle, and rented a car. Super Shuttle is all you need if you are JUST going to the parks. But if you can get a rental car for the same price I would say do it. A rental would allow you more freedom, say if you wanted to go to target outside eatery, Hollywood, Angels game, etc.boilerbabe wrote:

We have stayed off property every time we have gone to DL. Our two favorites and ones that you might want to check out are Candy Cane Inn and Best Western Park Place Inn.
The Candy Cane Inn is on Harbor right behind the TOT area of CA. It is a motel type place with two floors. We like them because our rooms have always been clean and the Continental Breakfast was decent. They have a free shuttle that goes to the park and leaves each half hour (I think you'd have to look into it for exact times). You can also walk to the park and that took us around 15 minutes. This motel is about the same distance from the entrance as Howard Johnson.
The Best Western Park Place Inn is nice because it is at the crosswalk that goes to the main entrance on Harbor. You really can't get much closer to the main turnstiles when staying off property. Near as I remember it has 3 or 4 floors. We've always stayed near the back of the motel on the 3rd floor. The rooms have always been clean although a bit dark. We don't spend much time in the rooms so this does not bother us. The continental isn't the greatest we usually just grab an apple and a coffee and go get in line at the park for entrance.
I hope this helps with your lodging search.
Both places have pictures on their sites so you can get an idea of what they look like.

Just a little heads up here.
I sing in a barbershop chorus. Think of the Dapper Dans quartet on Main Street and multiply times 10. That's the size of my chours, Atlanta Vocal Project. Now, multiply that times about 200 or so.
From June 28 - July 5, 2009, approximately 8,000 barbershoppers, wives, significant others, family, friends, etc., will be in Anaheim for our International Convention and Competition. The headquarters hotel will be the Anaheim Hilton and the competitions will be at the Honda Center.
I know conventions are always going on but since I knew about this one, you might want to make plans for other days if you have the flexibility to do so. Not everyone will be flooding DLR but hotel rooms will be a little scarce around the park.
