In Disney's defense?

Post by MateoJD » Apr Sat 30, 2005 5:03 pm

Any stories? It counts if you've had to defend against one of the accusations of "smut" in a Disney movie.

Never had to defend my love for disney, but some do think it is a little weird. We all have things we love and it's not that big of a deal.

hmm. I think i had to defend it a couple of times. 2 times the people were saying how its just for kids and the theme parks are lame. In both cases they haven't even been to a Disney theme park in over 10 years.

The one that was most recent was a friend who wrote how Disneyland sucks in her blog. She didn't even give any valid reasons. I called her on it, and wrote this long counterpoint and posted it on my site. We talked about it, and I forgot who won; me hopefully.

We hit WDW in Orlando at least once a year and we always get a raised eyebrow from those who just don't get it and never will - which is fine by me - imagine if everyone was as obsessed - it'd be packed year round! :?

I can honestly say that I've never had to defend my love of Disney (especially parks) as my entire family and many of my friends are Disney freaks (some even more so than myself  ).

Oh yeah. Anytime the average person finds out how many times I've been to Disneyalnd they look at me like I'm crazy. I've only been 6 times, but around here most people haven't even been once. Not to mention the girl I was seeing who though me a freak for singing along to Disney music.

Fun article on the subject.

I've defended Disney in the fact that alot of my friends, co-workers comment on the sexual inuendos, rude behaviors of characters (passing gas to get laughs), single parents or same sex partners in their recent movies, cartoon & TV shows, stuff like that. While personally I will always enjoy the old classics best, like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio, Alice In Wonderland, etc, I do find myself having to defend Disney on their new stuff.

Oddly enough it was from my DH and DS. They THINK  I'm Disney obsessed because I listed to Subsconic and Disney music all the time. Just the other day they both said on one of the past 2 trips someone must have gotten ahold of me and brainwashed me. But, they sure do love to let me do the trip planning and enjoy the benefits of my hard labor!

Ah, I see what you mean. Disney isn't a perfect company, and I don't even know a lot of what they produce, so it's weird when someone complains about something related to Disney that I didn't even know about.

Since I'm an anime fan, I have come to expect those anime purists that hate Disney for their 'lame' cartoons and stuff. I don't know why they even bother to compare Disney and anime; it's such a tired topic.

I have the same problem as Lion most of my friends are Anime people, and they tend to roast* Disney and I have to come to its defense. Of they will go after me for liking it.

*Roast= make fun of, or put down.

I would have to say for now. Im not saying I wouldn't defend Disney. I would in a heart beat, but nothing has really come up to me and other people.
Love Tomorrowland and Adventureland, but hard to decide to which one is best.

One thing that I hate to hear from people is "I've seen it once, why do I need to see it again?" This gets me all worked up. I have been 19 times & that isn't enough! Even I haven't seen it all!

Since I am a Disney freak.. I have had to explain why I go to WDW at least twice a year and why I have tons of Disney stuff on my desk.

My general explanation is that, I can go to no other place can I completely forget about reality and just enjoy myself.

I also realized there are just two types of Disney people - those who get it and those who don't.

Its good to be the ones who do! :D

I was brought up on Disney and the magic was amazing. Now I am a mother I want my kids to have the magic too.

Some of my friends don't get it and often make fun of my love of all things Disney. They all laughed on the other side of their faces when my 'obsesion' won me a 14 day trip to WDW in a deluxe resort, international flights and ground transportation included!
