this is getting off-topic, but in response to the peoplemover, I direct you to this link. the DLR People mover was closed in 1995. it was replaced by the short-lived Rocket Rods attraction in 1998. the track has not been sitting dormant since 2001.
please click the above links for more information on the peoplemover
now, back to our original programming please...

There is no better, more relaxing place in Disney World than inside the "Star Tunnel" on the way up to the Space Mountain loading platform on a hot day. It's dark, it's cool, you get that special Space Mountain smell, and best of all, you hear Star Tunnel, and its different variations. The music really puts the icing on the whole experience, and if anybody wants to change THAT, well, then you're not a Disney fan!
Here are a few links that might help:
This one highlights the curiosity that SM is not labeled on the new park maps and is missing from the promotional dvd

And this one confirms a refirb, but not lasting 2 years like was speculated

probably because it was just announced, and the rehab won't begin until April (4 months from now). it's still early for the walls to go up.MetalRage wrote:i was just there and its still open. theres no signs either about it closing soon.

that has been talked about in the Some Rumors thread.packwingfn wrote:Does anyone know if TTA will also be closed during Space Mountain's closing? It's not like they can detour the TTA to travel a different route..

Well i read today January 9 2009 in the Miami Hearald news paper Bussiness section page 3c Disneys Space Mountain To Seek Makeover. Space Mountain one of Walt Disney Worlds most iconic attraction will be closing this spring for a makeover. Disney said the Magic Kingdom ride will close April 19 so that the 34 year old attraction can be freshened up.Park officials expect the ride to reopen later in the year, but no date has been set. The renovations are the first substantantial work on the ride since september 1999
It is now on Disney's website that TTA will be closed through July and I've heard on DIS boards that it will be closed through at least August. I'm really bummed about this being closed more than Space Mountain! We love this ride. It is so relaxing and my son has the sayings memorized too!js3901 wrote:that has been talked about in the Some Rumors thread.packwingfn wrote:Does anyone know if TTA will also be closed during Space Mountain's closing? With the short amount of time that it is closing, I doubt it will return anything like the one in Disneyland.
The WDW Space Mountain is a fun, but difficult ride. It is very jerky. Athough, as someone posted, it is supposed to be in the pitch dark, it really isn't. It would be nice to see improvements on both points.
I rode the Disneyland Space Mountain last April and I have to say I agree with holidaygeek--it rocks! The ride itself is fast, smooth and more than a little scary. This has more to do with the quality of the ride than the soundtrack, which, as far as I am concerned, could stay just the same as it is now in DW.
Some people in this forum have suggested that DW already has a fast, smooth, dark coaster in the Rock N Rollercoaster, but, having ridden both, I have to say that the DL SM is MUCH better. I would LOVE to see DW SM become more like DL SM. Maybe then I could ride it more than once or twice a trip (and, believe me, I would).
