Hoop Dee Doo Revue

Post by mickster68 » Mar Fri 25, 2005 8:53 am

Has anyone ever done the Hoop Dee Doo Revue at Fort Wilderness? I was thinking of trying it this trip. Called for prices and to make a PS, and was told you have to pay in full when you make your PS---seems kind of expensive at $50. plus tax per person! Not sure I want to commit! Your thoughts/experiences??

Like many things at WDW, the Hoop Dee Doo is a Disney institution. The show has barely changed at all since its inception, and it still plays to packed houses almost every night.

I think it's something you have to do at least once, especially while your kids are still young enough to enjoy it. Once they get to their teenage years, I think they feel too mature for some of the humor and genuine "Disney" brand of entertainment.

The food is very good, but no frills: all you can eat barbequed ribs, fried chicken, garden salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, macaroni and cheese, etc. You'll definitely leave feeling full.

Have you done the Polynesian Luau? If so, the Hoop Dee Doo is more kid-friendly, more fun, and more exciting from beginning to end. Getting there can be kind of tricky, depending on where you're travelling from, but overall, I don't think there's another show at WDW that's brings back more of the feeling of the old-fashioned, family-friendly Disney entertainment that Walt himself would have enjoyed.

Thanks for your thoughts. I was really leaning towards not doing it, but you may have swayed me. I think by the time we go again the kids will be in that "uncool" phase, so it's something we should do now! Just have to save our pennies...I'm surprised to hear that it still plays to sold out crowds--I had no idea it was so popular!

It does depend on the time of year, but during those peak or near-peak times, be sure to make reservations well in advance.

You're most welcome, mickster! I always love talking about food! [tummy rumbles] :D

Sounds like a good time...the menu sounds just like that of Trail's End (also at Ft. Wilderness). We ate there on our first trip, and it was yummy!!
We had no clue about Hoop Dee Doo back then, either--found out since it was right next door to Trail's End.

I've seen this on shows like Great Hotels on the Travel Channel. They go down to WDW occasionally (and even sometimes DLR) and profile all the resort hotels.

The Hoop De Doo Revue looks like alot of fun... can't wait to see it myself. I'd also like to attend the campfire fun at FW...

Holy smokes! That's a lotta posts! ...the campfire--that's another thing I've always wanted to do! Not sure that goes on in December, though. I guess, weather permitting, anything goes.

The next best option if you cant get into the Hoop Dee Do is to check out the Adventurers Club at PI. A bit more risque (for disney that is) although hysterical, something we should have to request but thats a whole other story, and its cheaper than Hoop Dee Doo.

I love the Adventurers Club, but it's not a place I would bring kids (depending on their ages). After all, it is located on Pleasure Island, which isn't the most family-friendly place at WDW.

Can someone describe the Adventurers Club in more detail? I've been to the Hoop Dee Do twice now and we really enjoy the food and entertainment, but never even heard of Adventurers Club.

From WDW Info:

"The Adventurers Club is pure fun. Themed as a 1937 Explorer Club, you'll find a zany bunch of characters residing here.

There's the intellectual Professor Otis Throckmorton Wren, the daring darling Samantha Sterling, the debonair Hathaway Browne, Emil Bleehall the scount from Sandusky, Ohio, the Club President Pamelia Perkins, Fletcher Hodges who is rather indescribable and Colonel Critchlow Sutchbench who is a permanent fixture of this establishment.

Of course, such an exclusive club needs to be properly staffed. Sunny Knight the maid and Graves the butler do an excellent job of overseeing the festivities.

There are four different rooms to visit:

Main Salon: Be prepared to be inducted into the Adventurer's Club by taking the club oath, singing the club song and learning the very important club salute.

Mask Room: There's more to the masks than meets the eye.

Treasure Room: Beezle the Genie floats above. Be careful what you wish for in this artifact lined room.

Library: This is where the main shows take place. They vary throughout the evening and may include the talented Samantha Sterling's Cabaret, the Balderdash Competition and the Hoopla finale.

Overlooking the fun below is the Zebra Mezzanine. If you want to be a part of the interactive craziness, head downstairs to the Main Salon which connects to the other three rooms.

Kungaloosh is the club credo as well as the signature drink. By the end of the evening, you'll be a smiling and proud member of the Adventurer's Club. KUNGALOOSH!"

From the WDW official website:

"Take an expedition into the past in this audience-participation comedy club for tall tales of explorers' adventures. Get into the fun of it and shout the rallying cry: Kungaloosh!"

Be sure to check out this website, devoted entirely to the Adventurer's Club!:

http://www.theadventurersclub.net/

Hope this helps! KUNGALOOSH!

Can I post a negative response about HDD without getting flamed? I thought this show was horribly corny, the food atrocious and the whole thing a huge waste of time. Maybe just not our style, but we were very dissappointed and I wish we'd not wasted the money on it. Just our experience, take it for what it is worth.
