Our two scents worth
These are the smells that say "Hey !! We're BACK!!" to us
The water smell - Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon have it the strongest, but nearly any Disney waterway has that distinctive fresh slightly muddy smell.
And something that my DH has named "Disney Spice" - not really sure what is in it, but it's some blend of food smells coming from most of the better restaurants - the counter service ones don't seem to have it.

All Central Florida lakes smell like that, I think it has to do with higher bacteria and algal resulting from the temperature not falling below zero.MouseMom23 wrote: The water smell - Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon have it the strongest,

The Pirates smell. It is almost the same one from Disneyland. You can pick up that smell from a couple of miles away on the right day. Pulse doubles everytime I catch a whiff.
Mr. Starkey: No splash, Captain.
Captain Hook: So, you want a splash, Mr Starkey? I'll give you a splash!
[Hook throws Mr Starkey overboard]
Captain Hook: Who's next?

I know it echoes alot of others, but seeing as how Epcot is my favorite park, it has to be the smell of Rome burning in Spaceship Earth, and all the smells, especially the oranges of Soarin'.
It is hilarious- there are a bunch of people who eat oranges in my office- and since we have cubicles we an all smell it... so when someone peels and orange, we all smell it.. and EVERY SINGLE time someone does, my mind immediatly goes back to Soarin'.
I can't help but giggle about it every time!

Figment's Rose smell was always one of me favorites. It was so beloved, that my aunt and I still refer to it. I think it is the reason that I own several rose-scented candles, soaps and lotions. I am always searching for just the right Figment Rose scent.
Now, the Soarin' scents--both the oranges and the pine-like scents are my favorites. I also love the scent of the Main Street Bakery and the sticky orangey scent from the stand just outside the Tiki Room.

There are 3 smells that remind me of Disney, in no particular order:
1. The musty water smell of POTC
2. The pine & orange smells from Soarin'
3. The burning smell of Rome from SSE
Oh, I'll add a fourth one, too - the bakery smells walking down Main Street!

I love how so many of us seem to love that musty smell from Pirates (and I'm one of them, so I can legitimately find it amusing
). I mean, it's stale water and, I assume, mold. Shouldn't we -not- like it?
Sense memory is a peculiar thing.

I don't think it's so much stale water as the combination of water on the stone walls. We get that smell sometimes in the hospital down in one of the sub-basement tunnels. especially when it rains.DisBeamer wrote:I love how so many of us seem to love that musty smell from Pirates (and I'm one of them, so I can legitimately find it amusing). I also somewhat get that smell in the summer when it rains while the pavement is hot...

So, this isn't a smell I like, but it does remind me of Disney.
When I went to Animal Kingdom for the first time, there was this one place by a fountain that we had to pass SEVERAL times during the day because it was the only way in/out of this particular area. (I think it was in Asia in between the Jungle Trek paths and Kali River.) Anyway, it had this AWFUL smell that I at first thought was some sort of Asian food cooking but I don't think it was. It was like garbage mixed with stale water mixed with who knows what.
Anyway, that's my happy thought for the evening.

Yeah, I guess that's true. If it was just 'stale' it'd probably smell the same in Small World and it doesn't (at least, I don't think it does). I always kind of thought that first room in Pirates (the cave) smelled moldy because it's misty in there, but maybe it's just misty/closed in by the 'rocks'.js3901 wrote:I don't think it's so much stale water as the combination of water on the stone walls. Although that makes me wonder what the walls are made out of. Are they really rock (cement, I would assume)?

My wife and I do love the smells all over the resorts. She is keen on the Disney water rides no matter which one. We took the "keys to the kingdom" tour and asked our guide what Disney put in the water. Also, her favorite is Mexico, The Norway Ride and the smells of Layla perfume that is sold at the shops. Our friends live in Florida and their water smells the same and now my wife wants to move to Florida.
Oh my Goodness I thought I was the only one. I love the Disney smells
in Epcot I love the ride living on the land, its a boat ride and it smells so so good.
i love soarin smells
And in France you can smell the Layia perfume I love it and i buy a bottle every year last year I met the Creator of the scent. Wow! lol I think they pump that smell out of the shop to get sales but i tell you what it works. awesome
I love the Norway ride smells, and the Mexico Boat ride. and the Waterfall in Epcot i think its the dancing fountain its great smells as well. lol

My Favorite WDW Smell
Hi, this may seem like a strange post for a newbie to this forum, but this topic sparked my interest because I'm totally blind.
Anyway, when I was younger I was a huge Dreamflight fan (hence the username!), so my favorite smell would have to be the fog machine used to create one of the effects during the jet-engine scene of that ride. It always gave that scene a distinctive smell that I quickly grew to love.
Incidentally, a few years ago my mom and I saw a live production of A Christmas Carol, and they used a fog machine with the very same Dreamflight smell during the graveyard scene near the end. For a few seconds I was back on Dreamflight again, and I later learned that my mom felt the same way! I guess sometimes a smell can bring it all back.
