Fastpass Question

Post by SWHorn » Dec Tue 02, 2008 3:46 pm

My entire family is going to Disney World next week, and we're going to have several kids and babies for the first time. So, we're trying to plan out accordingly with child swap and fastpass.

My question is when do they begin distributing fastpasses on days that have Morning EMH? Do they begin early (like 8 am) when the park is open for EMH or when the park opens for regular hours (like 9 am)?

Thanks!

i have never been to morning emh, so im not sure when they open. but if you have to wait until 9, it still wont be too bad. just make sure you know what you want to get before you arrive. ive found that its relatively easy to get what you want if you are there for park opening. but, if you open at studios one morning, you better RUN to toy story mania, fastpasses go out super fast there and a line forms immediately.

Thanks for the info. It's funny, because the Studios is the one place I was really thinking about. I'm glad to know that Toy Story Mania needs to be taken care of quickly. I figured as much.

We are basically going to split our party into groups that watch the babies and then switch off. I was just trying to figure out when one of our groups could run over get Toy Story FPs while the others rode RnR and ToT.

During our 2007 summer trip we did early hours at every park and did get the fast pass as soon as the park opened. TSM wasn't opened during our 2007 trip though. Hope you have a great time! 8-)

Often times conventional advice is actually avoid EMH parks, even if you have the opportunity to partake. Generally they're the most crowded park for the day (generally) and the net hours you have gained through EMH are lost in longer lines throughout the day. The instance where this is not entirely accurate is if you park hop to the EMH evening park during the day and extend your day... but w/ babies maybe not the best idea.

Just kind of a diff. perspective.

Yeah, we don't even bother with Evening EMH. I swear, that stuff is more crowded than anything during the day. (Bring back E-Ride Nights!) With kids, we are up early, and we like to take advantage of Morning EMH when we can. It doesn't seem to be crowded that early, and we are gone in the early afternoon for naps by the time people really start to trickle in.

EMH are tricky, at best, to navigate.

Thanks, sherabby! I thought they were open as soon as it opened, but couldn't remember for sure.

I don't know how this fits into your plans, but most (if not all) attractions offer parent-swap. So instead of two groups swapping outside of the attraction, causing everyone to wait twice as long, everyone waits in line together then when you get to the front of the line ask a CM for parent swap. One group rides while the other waits with the kids, then when the first group finishes the second group goes without having to wait in line again. It's very convenient when traveling with kids who can't/won't ride a ride that both adults want to ride. I don't know about the fastpass thing though.

This is very interesting. I would assume this only works for attractions that load and unload in the same location. Thanks for the heads up!

It's such a different trip when you have a big group. It's fun! We'll have 10 (including our 4 kids). And, yes, we'll all be sporting the Burnt Orange (this is especially true in the cold months...we end up having the same Longhorn sweatshirts on in every picture, every day ;) ). Hope y'all have a great trip, too!

on Dr. Ravenscroft's and my trip back in December of 06, the Fastpasses started as soon as people were let into the park. If going for the evening EMH, the fastpasses are shut down as soon as the park closes to regular guests.

as far as the EMH, I highly suggest going to at least AK during the evening hours. it's a MUCH different park when it's dark out.

the Parent Swap is (from my understanding) avalable on EVERY ride with a height/age restriction. Mainly, those are going to be your thrill rides. You just have to tell a CM while you're in line and they'll take care of you.

Cool, so, I would assume they have some process of bringing the 1st group back around to the load area to get the kids and make the switch...or something like that.

Thanks for all the info.

I would assume so. though I'm not a parent, so I've never personally used the service. I'm sure I'll find out for myself eventually (need a SO first). my understand of how it works is only from what I've read in various travel guides and seen in shows ans such.

the child swap usually allows 2 or 3 people to go at a time.

Disney Baby swap.

Post by hchasen » Dec Wed 17, 2008 9:55 am

All,

Don't worry! Just get on the line for the ride and tell a cast member that you need a baby swap. Trust me, the right thing will happen. Depending on the ride, the procedures are different, but we will accomodate you.
