I didn't hear that. Goodness, does anyone need that kind of money? Is anyone really worth that kind of money? It's ridiculous. And didn't I hear that Johnny Depp was paid something like $50 million up front to do Pirates 4? Isn't that a bit outrageous?? I mean, I do like Pirates and all, but that's just plain crazy!

I think the actual figure is $56M for POTC 4, and also heard that Zach Efron (sp?) from High School Musical will be in it:

I read a news blurb on IMDB the other day that had Zac Efron saying it was 'just a rumor' that he was involved but 'he'd like to be'.
I wouldn't mind this 4th movie going ahead if it has a decent story, but the idea of them grooming Efron to 'take over' in the future makes my stomach turn a little bit...

I say.... NO!!!!
POTC 1- brilliant. POTC 2&3- the two worst films I've ever seen. I suffered through them both at the theater. I nearly fell asleep during 3 and all but cried from boredom during 2.
I want, rather than ANOTHER stupid sequel, a prequel that shows all the events before the first film starts. How did Jack become a pirate? How did Jack meet Barbossa? How did they acquire the Black Pearl? What really happened when the Pearl's crew left Jack on the island, and how did he escape?
Answer those questions in the 4th film as a prequel and I'll be happy. If not.... I won't be wasting my money to see #4.

And we all witnessed the tragic thing that was. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE NO MORE PIRATES! I very much so hope that Gore Verbinski says no to direct a fourth movie. Even if they do a fourth I hope he has the respect to say no if the story is mediocre and not do it for the money. But hey if we follow the recent Hollywood equation Steven S. will produce and Shia LeBouf will star and it will well suck. You never know, Indiana Jones came back after how many years.......

The 56 million number came out not long after the big press event in New York where they announced all of the upcoming movies. Supposedly Depp didn't want to do another one, but they threw money at him, and then he took the job. Whether he deserves it will depend on how well the movie does. He has made them a lot of money though, and he and they both know it. I'll cautiously hope the new Pirates will be a good movie.pixiesparkles wrote:I didn't hear that. Not so sure what I think of a live action version of The Sorcerer's Apprentice, starring Nicholas Cage as the sorcerer though.

I'll be the oddball. I loved the third movie, as well as the first movie. I liked the second movie - but I understood that it was just a bridge movie before I even saw it. I don't think that a lot of people understood that and were disappointed when they saw it because of it. I'd go and see a fourth with Cpt. Jack Sparrow and Barbosa dealing with the Fountain of Youth. I think the Elizabeth/Will storyline needs to be at an end (even though I loved watching Orlando Bloom in those movies!)

I somewhat agree with you Wonder. I'm probably a real oddball in that I hated the first movie and enjoyed the second and third movies. I don't really know which one I liked more. I loved the ending to the 2nd one; I had avoided all spoilers, so I was really shocked when Barbossa walked down the stairs.
The only thing I truly disliked about the 3rd one was how unclear they made the ending. You shouldn't have to watch the extras on the DVD to have the ending explained to you (i.e. that Will was freed as captain of the Dutchman after 10 years of loyal service, because Elizabeth was waiting faithfully for him). I'd have rather sat in the theater an extra five minutes than leave wondering what the heck was supposed to have happened.
