But, it is still futuristic. If you look at movies as old as Logan's Run or newer ones like the Incredibles they have those exact type of things.

All they would need to do is make it all magnetic where it's as smooth as butter, transform them into some cool looking pod shaped things, air conditioning, strips of electrolumenicent tape on the sides, and maybe some LCD touch screen interactive facts about Tomorrowland which would produce repeat ride throughs. If I saw something like that moving around Tomorrowland I'd definatly see future.

Although I was pretty young when I went on the PeopleMover, I don't remember it ever looking or feeling futuristic at all. Don't get me wrong - it was neat, and I would like to see them put something back on those tracks, but there's still the feeling that anything with wheels would feel somewhat hokey in this context. The Haunted Mansion's system always seemed to feel smoother and more futuristic, though I have no clue the feasibility of setting up a similar Omnimover system using the current building and tracks. Then again I've never been to WDW, and don't know what their PeopleMover's like.

There is a great picture of workers working on the top of the peoplemover track. Since there is no way to see up there, why would they be working on it before the 50th unless something is going to happen.

Maybe nothing, but seems strange since it extends along the track a decent distance. Since it looks like its at the same level its not for painting the side, so it must be to work on the track.

From Miceage.com today "And believe it or not, TDA and WDI have more plans for Tomorrowland up their sleeve. If things go well in the next few weeks, a final fiscal approval for a new version of the dearly departed PeopleMover will come through from Burbank. In the plan that would bring life back to the unused PeopleMover tracks, the Rocket Jets would return to their rightful place atop the loading station, freeing up desperately needed space at the entrance to the slowly reviving land."

Does that mean a version of the PeopleMover will be back at DL?

Wow, that's great news! Thanks for sharing that! I wonder what "new version" really means. Well at least the tracks are going to be used for something other than decoration.

I would assume "new version" means peoplemover cars that will run on the rocket rod tracks. This would save the huge headache of rebuilding the track to work with the old cars. They could have been testing these cars offsite and just need to drop them on the track, and of course a bunch of final testing.

Maybe they are hiding right now above 360' and space mountain, only to be brought out at night to be tested on the track. 100 percent guess on my part there, with a lot of desire in the guess

Perhaps they are doing what should have been done in the first place with Rocket Rods: bank the freakin' turns! Is it too much to hope for a higher speed attraction similar to Rocket Rods returning? Maybe with more of a "PeopleMover" rather than a racecar theme?

From what I read on other forums about the track. If they modify the track structures they would be required to put in emergency exits every 26 feet or something. As long as they dont modify the structures they don't have to change that. There is a lot of confusing over what really would be required and such though especially since no one on these forums seems to be a theme park attorney specializing in attraction structure grandfather law.

In any case the RR suposedly burnt through tires and transmissions like a hot knife through butter so it was way to expensive to maintain.

I would bet on a slow ride very similar to the old peoplemover with better cars that utilize the rocket rod track. Since they wont be moving fast they won't be so hard on the tires and won't be as difficult to maintain. Plus it brings back the nostalgia factor for returning people, which is something they are obviously working on lately making things look both cool, and returning to colors that worked.

^That's right, if the structure was modified, the emergency exits would be required.

However, since the Peoplemover tracks predates those emergency exit requirements, (could be ADA, not sure) the grandfather clause applies.

I would love to see those tracks be used as an attraction again. The Peoplemover would be nice, or any sort of attraction that can use those tracks. Tomorrowland needs that kinetic motion!

I also would like to see the lagoon filled again for the 50th celebration. They could build a fake wall at the waterfalls, and inside build up a good waterproof dam. This way they can do all their work in private, yet not ruin the view for the celebration.

Unfortunately I read the walls will just get some finding nemo graphics on them instead
