I'm so glad I wasn't the only one that noticed this. I immediately thought of the ride because of that and here is to hoping that SOME DAY something will happen and the People Mover shall return. I shouldn't really say anything now because there hasn't been anything going on with the particular track for nearly eight years now.

Apparently Disney is pushing to get Wall-E nominated for a Best Picture Oscar as well as Best Animated Film Oscar. Here's hoping for Best Picture. Beauty and the Beast is lonely in the category of animated films nominated for Best Picture.

1) The reason a Best Animated Picture Oscar was created was so that an Animated Film has a les of a chance of being nominated for the whole thing. It all started with the success and love towards Chicken Run; I don't think the Academy was too fond that one of the best pictures of that year was a claymation picture about chickens--so thus the Oscar was created so these kinds of movies can indeed win and not potentially tarnish the reputation of the Academy. That's why movies like Shrek and Ratatoulle can win.
2) Sci-fi films RARELY ever are considered for Best Picture, let alone actually win one.
3) The Dark Knight will not be nominated for best picture, comic book films also get shafted in Best Picture categories year after year. Spider-Man 2 years ago should have at least been nominated, because that was an amazing experience.

I have to disagree with you on a few points. First, Chicken Run although a very good movie, was never recognized by the Academy. It does not matter how popular the movie was it just wasn't Oscar worthy. If the Academy did not like the idea of animated features taking the Oscar for Best Picture, then why did they nominate Beauty and the Beast nine years before Chicken Run? Secondly, there have been, by my count, seven (there could be more, but seven obvious ones) Science-fiction movies nominated for Best Picture. Granted yes, this is a small minority, but if you look at the majority of sci-fi pictures, they are campy b-rated movies. So no, those would not be considered, but a sci-fi movie that is decent does get considered. In fact in 1999 two sci-fi movies were nominated. Finally, yes, comic book movies have been under-represented in the Academy, but the Dark Knight is undeniably an excellent movie. On top of that, it stars Heath Ledger, who as I am sure you remember passed this past January and we all know how the Academy loves a dead actor. I do not believe either the Dark Knight or Wall-E will win, but I am confident the former will be nominated and I hope so will the latter.DIAC1987 wrote:1) The reason a Best Animated Picture Oscar was created was so that an Animated Film has a les of a chance of being nominated for the whole thing. In the decades of the Academy Awards, only ONE animated film has been nominated for Best Picture. The chances are highly against Wall-E to be nominated, pure and simple.
Plus:
"There was a major push to get the film nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. The failure to get the nomination, and the popularity of the film among Academy members led to the inclusion of Best Animated Feature for the next Academy Awards (2002), which was won by fellow Dreamworks film Shrek (2001)."

Like the previous statement, the decades of Academy Awards and very, very, very few sci-fi films have had the chance for Best Picture. Even some amazing sci-fi movies have been shafted too, which includes Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Matrix, Minority Report, Blade Runner, Back to the Future, among others.

Other Nominees:

Green Mile, The
Insider, The
Sixth Sense, The
1999 Academy Awards
Best Picture
Winner:
Shakespeare in Love
Other Nominees:
Elizabeth (1998) -
Saving Private Ryan

We've had great comic book movies before as well, some of which I personally prefer over Dark Knight and none of them got a chance for Best Picture either.

Not saying they don't deserve nominations, but its the Academy Awards, and I have very little faith in them in terms of recognizing certain types of films, and sci-fi, comic book, and animation are three of the main genres I always see them shafting.

I don't get it? Yes, I enjoyed Wall-E, but an Academy Award? I don't see it happening. Same with the Dark Knight. I just don't see what the fuss is. As for Sci-Fi, There are two I thought should have been nominated, but weren't. Legend and Hancock, both were IMHO great stories that were well written, acted, directed, and filmed. Again, I just don't see what all the fuss over Wall-E is.

I know, ridiculous isn't it? I have seen Kung Fu Panda and it's good, but the gap between it and WALL-E is not even comparable. It's pretty odd that WALL-E didn't pick up a single thing at that award show. I heard rumors that it was because the show is run/financed by someone who wants Kung Fu Panda to succeed. A skewed field, one might say.Esmeralda wrote:Did anyone else notice that Wall-E was robbed at the Annie Awards? It didn't win anything, while Kung Fu Panda took home 11 awards. I didn't see Panda, but I was shocked.
But considering that I never even heard of this award show before now, I don't think it's too much to worry about. If WALL-E does NOT pick up the Oscar for Best Animated Film, then well, the Academy has officially lost it's mind.

I didn't hear about that but I did like Kung Fu Panda. It was well done just like Wall-E was but it's good enough to know that it's being acknowledged from the Academy Awards. As long as it gets recognition then I'm fine with it.Esmeralda wrote:Did anyone else notice that Wall-E was robbed at the Annie Awards?
