Another downtime for Splash?

Post by kgmadorin » Apr Tue 12, 2005 1:23 pm

Does anyone know when the new logs were added to Splash Mountain? I heard that the old ones were switched out for new ones with double seats in the back.

Anyway, the news through the grapevine is that the new logs don't handle the flume like they are supposed to. I don't know what the specific problem is, but I hear they are running the mountain without loading any of the back seats. Can anyone verify that?

If true, that may mean another downtime before the 50th celebration starts...

There have been a lot of recent phots showing the ride open with the back seat empty on every log.

They messed it up, but found a solution that will let them get through the summer without shutting it down while they fix it. As long as the intermittent problems (think i read some of the logs still get stuck randomly) to a minimum I doubt they will do anything to change it until next year.

Yeah, I've also seen photos of the backseat being empty. They tested the seats out with dummies and it worked fine. But once the people got on, it stopped at certain places. Man, think of all that money they used to make the logs like that, and it doesnt even work- seems like such a waste. :?

Over on Al Lutz's new update from Disneyland said that a log stopped before one of the falls creating a dam and damaging some of the AA's. This ride will almost have to go down once they find a fix for the problem, because when it's 90 degrees with 45000 people in the park with no splash there is bound to be problems.

Amazing really that this happened - log flume technology has been around for a long time. Hope they get it worked out soon.

When the ride re-opened on March 17th, the new logs had already been tested for about a week with water dummies.

Lutz reported that the old logs were destroyed, and unfortunately, the back seat of the logs can't be used (too much weight).

Disneyland.com has the ride down today, but it seems as if it's only for today (4/21). Hopefully, all the problems are sorted out before May 5th (Two Weeks Away!).

I thought I read somewhere, that Splash will be closed until May 5th for emergency refurbishments.

I can't see them taking it out of service after the 5th - that would be crazy after all the work to make the park perfect for the big celebration! Not to mention pulling an E-ticket ride out of service [or even risking it being oos] near the peak season is crazy...

Yeah, that would really be a dissapointment if Splash wasn't ready in time for the big celebration. I hope it gets fixed before-hand.

I hope they fix it, cause I would hate to miss it on my visit. It's one of my favorites.

I'm putting my mother's forced denial to work. As long as I don't acknowledge that it might be down when I visit, it won't happen. The plan's flawless! Of course it usually blows up in her face when my mom tries it...

That's a good plan. I do that a lot too, but it usually doesn't blow up in my face. I hope it's fixed soon!

So what's the status? Was it open on the 50th?
Playing tag should be permitted on Tom Sawyer's Island so the guards would stop yelling at me.

From what I hear, the weight problem was fixed and all seating was in use on May 5.
