Bring back Song of the South

Movies, TV, music, and more. Here's the place to talk about anything Disney outside of the parks.

Bring back Song of the South

Post by indianajones137 » Aug Tue 26, 2008 3:25 pm

I'm sure most people on this website have been on the Splash Mountain rides in at least of the Disney parks around the world and love it. But what about the inspiration for it?

Song of the South was accused of being racist and politically incorrect, and I'm not trying to say it wasn't, because I can definitely see how people can easily be offended by it. The fact is that Disney wasn't trying to make the movie offensive, it's just based on an era when rights and freedoms weren't equal among all people, and it's reflecting it very accurately. You can't simply pretend that it never happend.

I believe that Disney should re-relase Song of the South on DVD, so generations (like my own) that never got to see it (except on very low-quality internet sites), can experience the movie as it was originally.

By the way, I'm 16, and ever since my first visit to Disneyland when I was 8, I'd been obsessed with Splash Mountain. While in the waiting room at my doctor's office, I read a book about "Uncle Remus's Tales" or something like that, and realized that it was part of the inspiration for my favourite ride. Years later, I went online and did some research and was pleased to find out that there was a movie, although I was incredibly disappointed that I couldn't find it anywhere. Thank goodness for the internet/youtube!
