Downloading Music
One of our local DJ's was ranting about people downloading music. He even said that when people called to ask the name of a song, he tells them he needs their name so he can report them to the police.
Am I the only one on the planet that buys and downloads their music on-line? I don't remember the last time I went to the store to buy a CD. I was curious if anybody else has heard a DJ go off on this in their location?

Wait, what? You mean when they ask him the name of a song so they can download it, or just anytime they ask the name of a song? Sounds like he needs some valium or something. o_OJacca5660 wrote:One of our local DJ's was ranting about people downloading music. I tend to buy music from iTunes. I'll occasionally buy a cd; usually if iTunes doesn't have it, or I really want a physical disc of it for some reason. Though then I'll rip it to put on my ipod anyway.

So they can download it. It's seems he doesn't know you can download music and not break a law!! I think he also might be in need of some Valium or maybe just decaf.Wait, what? What a strange DJ!!! It's not against the law to download music from offical sites such as iTunes. If you are using P2P software or torrents then yes - it is against the law.
It sounds as though this DJ didn't know what he was talking about - but I am suprised that the station he was on let it pass.

I occasionally will buy a CD, but mostly download from iTunes. It's rare I want the entire CD anyway.

I do this too, maybe the guy was in a failed band or lost his job in a cd factory because people weren't physically buying hard copies anymore.I tend to buy music from iTunes. now, I'm not a lawyer, or any kind of legal person whatsoever. but from what I understand of this issue, it's not the DOWNLOADING of music that's the problem. It's the UPLOADING of copyrighted music that's the problem. If no one makes the music available, then no one could download it.
but, any way you slice it, they'll never stop the downloading and/or uploading of ANYTHING (movies, music, even books). the internet is too popular a medium to just shut down. and that's the only way it'd be stopped. not an uppity, ego-maniacal DJ who calls the police when you ask for a song title

True, that is how they got the people who used kazaa. If you just downloaded music you are untouchable, however if you share the music you download you are guilty. I like this site. You pay per allowed GBs (it's like $10 for 20 GB) and as long as you don't post there is nothing illegal.js3901 wrote:now, I'm not a lawyer, or any kind of legal person whatsoever. but from what I understand of this issue, it's not the DOWNLOADING of music that's the problem. Random listener: Hey, what was the name of the song you just played?
DJ: What? WHAT?! Are you asking me what song I just played so you can download it??!?!?!
Random listener: What? No... I just wanted to know--
DJ: I know what you wanted! You're going to download! Who are you?! I'm calling the cops!
Random listener: Download? Er... uh, I just listen to the radio, really. Or I did listen to this station and--
DJ: And you're not going to because you're downloading all the music instead of buying CDs right? Admit it! Right???
Random listener: Uh... yeah, I'm switching to classical now. Bye.
Seriously, that's just cooky.
