Yeah, but the article says that once they get the new system in place, they will return to the regular 6 month window.meticulus9 wrote:im glad they are getting rid of 6 months and will use 3. who knows where they are eating that far in advance

The biggest fear I have is people gaming the system.
Making reservations and then making ADRs and trying to e-bay them. Since I can "cancel" them 48 hours before arrival that is a resource that Disney is "giving" me at very little risk to me.
So no one can get ADRs unless you pay a scalper err middleman

I'm personally hoping the online system will only let you make one ADR for one time period (like, you can't have 2 within 3 hours of each other, or something). Take that, double bookers.SWHorn wrote:This is really cool. How convenient it will be. I wonder how it will change ADRs, though. I mean, I can imagine with the ease of being able to make the reservations online yourself, coupled with the fact that it doesn't cost anything, that people would be willing to make much more of them, thus filling up the ADRs even more.

I think this is a neat idea, but it just sounds like it's going to be utter chaos. I find it difficult to believe that they're going to have a server that can take hits from the number of people who are likely to use it without it exploding all the time (versus controlling the number of people booking at once by using agents). Should be interesting to see, anyway.

I think that if this is done right, it could be an absolute dream... ie, if they prevent double booking, etc.
But if they don't put those kind of things in place, it could be a complete nightmare. I'm really hoping that they've thought it through and are going to put systems in place to prevent abuse of the system.

Yea I'm really afraid of how it's going to effect ADRs.
DisBeamer, server hits shouldn't be an issue (even a commodity PC today could deal with it.) Assuming they make you put in a valid resort reservation. Because if they don't make you do that, then there really isn't any reason not to write a robot that goes and books every seat at Cindy's every day, and post them to e-bay.

Hopefully they'll anticipate the capacity they'll need accurately, then. Good point about botting the reservations, though. You don't need a resort reservation to make an ADR (otherwise locals wouldn't be able to make them, right?). I wonder if that'll be a restriction they impose and thereby lock out certain people from making them - peopele staying offsite included, I guess.

Given the way people start calling early in the morning on certain days, this could easily turn into a situation like eBay, where a casual user can never, ever get an object in high demand. I forget what they call the bots that wait until just seconds before a deal closes ("stingers" or something), but it makes the entire system unusable unless you want to take it up as a second career.

I also like the 3 months in advance. 180 days seems like so long and then I read on other boards about how many people that change their ADR's many times. I'm not sure if I would use an online system though. I like talking to the CM's and they often tell stories of their experiences.

I read on the DIS boards that they are still keeping the 180 day reservation system. I really wish they would change it to 90 days. I read on other boards about how many people keep changing their reservations. If it were closer they probably would be less inclined to make those changes.
