New Decor for Caribbean Beach

Post by Esmeralda » Jul Thu 17, 2008 2:41 pm

I read a Jim Hill article (yes, I know he's not reliable) about updates for the Caribbean Beach. He seems to think there's going to be a Nemo theme. I do love Nemo, especially the new musical. Still, Australia is about as far from the Caribbean you can get. Hopefully that's still in the concept stages.

He also stated that some of the rooms will have walls knocked out to create Pirates of the Caribbean themed family suites. Now that I like! Arr, mateys.
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

I agree, this makes no sense. It would be a terrible idea.

The pirates idea sounds interesting. Family suites in a moderate is an interesting idea too.

Nemo-themed? See, Jim, you almost had me thinking you knew what you were talkin' about there. I suppose there's an argument that tropical fish in the tropics isn't completely out of the question... I dunno. I'll put that in the 'believe it when I see it' category for now, I think.

I don't know - I have the same feelings towards this as I did on that Pirates of the Caribbean waterpark - good short-term idea, bad long-term idea. Well, at least the Pirates theming has more of a fighting chance because it takes place in the Caribbean and it's been a Disney favorite for over 30 years, but Nemo has no room in a resort that's theming is on the other side of the world than where it takes place.

Well, Jim does have pictures to go along with his story. Seeing is believing.

Ah you people are crazy, bet you are the same people that think Monsters has no business being in Tomorrowland...

Oh wait I am one of those people!

haha

Just seems that once again Disney is reaching for money here, and pushing aside the logic of the original story of the hotel. Pirates is an easy fit. Nemo not at all. They would have done better with a Little Mermaid theme, since technically we don't know where she really lived, besides under the sea. I guess the popularity of Nemo won over logic. Sad. Once again Disney need to stay true to its roots, and the money will follow, not the other way around.

To be fair, he has extreme closeups of things that could be in any resort. ;) Though I'll admit the color scheme certainly matches CBR. Then again he has the usual knowing exactly how many rooms were redone but not where 'stick handling' that makes me leery of anything he has posted. *shrug*

Anyway, taking it at face value, it's really not that obtrusive theming I don't think. Doesn't make it not kinda stupid, but it looks pretty tame compared to what they could have done. I'll take fish on the bedspread over giant animated character headboards, etc.

So we're going from Hidden Mickeys to Overt Nemos. The theming error is troublesome (although the previous Polynesian color scheme was very Caribbean, so these things are nothing new), but the character creep into the hotels is just gross. I wonder if they have a weekly "Where can we jam Nemo?" meeting.

Assuming this is all true, of course.

We can at least rest assured that in a decade or so, people will get tired of Nemo and they will change it to something else.
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Unfortunally I don't see that happening...I see Nemo being around for a long long time but maybe I'm wrong.
I know this is probably your first flight...and it's mine too...ha, ha

I do like the idea of the Pirates suites/rooms. The Nemo stuff isn't bad, but i loooooove the curtains from the Nemo stuff.

The fact that Nemo re-theming ruined The Living Seas just destroyed the character for me. I don't even like to watch the movie any more because of the Nemo-related changes at WDW. Disney needs to realize that we don't need movie character tie-ins to make our Disney vacations enjoyable. If CBR does go for the Nemo theme, I will most likely cancel my reservations for CBR in October and stay somewhere else.

It didn't take me a decade to get tired of Nemo. I've had it with him already.

I guess I should have expected this, though, with the Pixar incorporation into Disney...

You know what? As much as I ADORE the characters (Nemo included), I actually agree with you to an extent. There are some places that the characters should obviously be (MK, All Stars, places like that) but then I think about "my" resort, POFQ (the only one I've stayed at so far, that I absoulutely love) and think what it would be like if they added "characters" to it, and it just wouldn't mesh. Since I've never stayed at any of the other resorts, I don't have a true "feeling" for them, but the moderates and up are already themed so well that I don't think they need the character pick me up that the values seem to. And here I go rambling again, sorry for the long post.

Found some more 'in situ' pictures of this. Looks like Martinique 24 is the first building being Nemo-ized.

It still doesn't look all that different to me than the previous incarnation, apart from the cartoony fish staring at you from the walls. Does anyone know if those species of fish at least live in the Caribbean too? >_>

Clownfish and blue tang do not live in the Caribbean. Except in aquariums and on movie screens.
