Hmm. I coulda sworn I first heard this one from Jim Hill, and it had concept art, but I can't find the article anymore. Odd.

It seems like there will be a few prosperous years while they capitalize on something that has recently become popular, but will it continue to flourish? With the 'Pirates' movies over, there is nothing new (Pirates-wise) to bring to the tables that will be broadcast across the nation, which would in turn promote a trip to this theoretical water park (just like the 'Pirates' movies generated more enthusiasm for the theme park attraction). From what I've seen, the whole 'pirates' fad hinted at fading out before 'At World's End' even came out in theaters last year, and now that the series is over (from everything I've heard at least) it will probably continue to die.

I think Disney IS better than this and can think of a better, more general-themed water park that will be more "timeless" than something that has reflected a fad.

Oh yeah, sorry to put a damper on this thread - feel free to argue because I'd really like to hear an opinion from another side!
While the Harry Potter thing will probably fade in popularity, although I could be wrong, this idea seems pretty good. While the article is fake (ends with: "Initial reports are that admission for adults will be about half of Disneyland's 2007 entrance price -- $56 for adults, $55.50 for children four and under. Redheads get in free."), the idea is solid.

Assuming they do not do another movie, it would be a successful water park, for years and years. The theme is a perfect fit for a water park! Ships, castles, sand/beaches, maelstroms, waves, etc!! And while POTC is at its height in popularity, it has always been popular and will continue. Plus, even before the movies, what kid (young or old) would not want to go to a Pirate themed water park done Disney style? It would be AWESOME! I am not all that big on water parks and I am excited about the idea. I hope some Imaginears read this and get busy!!

From what I've heard about this - the new pirates water park is opening in Disneyland near California Adventure.

I'm not really a person who likes to argue, but I would point out a couple of things:

- Peter Pan movie was over 50 years ago, yet the ride remains one of the most popular.
- Dumbo was made over 65 years ago, yet the Dumbo ride remains the most popular in Fantasy Land.

My point is this: if the ride (or in the case, Waterpark) is good enough and themed well, I believe it will be popular for a very long time, and will even influence new viewers to watch the Pirates trilogy years from now.

"the "Dead Men Tell Tales" bookstore, and a kiosk where guests can choose any movie, record album, or video game and have it custom burned on a CD in five minutes for just $2." LMBO!!! You can even get "pirated" dvd's!!! (at least I'm guessing that was what the article was going for). Gotta love the "Blew by you" restaurant too.

There have been several rumors for what would go into the strawberry fields. Disney themselves even had a site up to take public opinion on some of the proposals (thirdthemepark.com) but the last I heard was they are likely to sit on the property for a while and build out DCA.
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.
