Hidden Treasures in World Showcase

Hi all,

Okay, by now probably everyone knows I'm taking my Mom to Epcot in December. I'm very much looking forward to introducing her to World Showcase and I think she'll love it. I know she's going to love the food and the different movies and such in the various pavillions. However, I want to "plus" it for her. Please let me know any little hidden treasures in each of the World Showcase countries so I can start making a list of what's fun.

For instance, one of the things I know about in the UK is the World Showcase players and their rendition of the King Arthur story. I definitely want to make sure she sees that becuase it's soooo funny.

So things like that ... but not just shows. Just any little hidden thing in each of the countries that makes it more authentice or more enjoyable or more educational or something like that.

It's the live entertainment that I really enjoy and that immerses me in World Showcase. Off Kilter in Canada, The British Invasion in the UK, MoRockin in Morocco, and Mariachi Cobre in Mexico are my favorites!

Well, going in December, you'll hear the various story tellers in almost every country telling their story of Christmas. those are nice. I also just really like the small details they've thrown into making each pavillion. things like the sign post in France covered in old notices/posters or the waterfall in Canada. little things like that always seem to get me and make me appreciate the WS that much more...

I think the landscaping is one of the best things about World Showcase. Check out the maze in UK, the gardens in Japan and the miniature train in Germany. And don't miss the Norwegian stave church!

If you and your mom like to eat, try to get a reservation at Le Celler in Canada. It is a little pricy, but I believe one of the best restaurans in all of WDW.

I don't know if we'll be able to get a meal there, but I'm sure going to pop in for some cheddar soup. That stuff is AMAZING!!! Thanks for reminding me.

If you're around at the right time to catch Miyuki, the candy artist at the Japan pavillion, definitely check out the show/demonstration she puts on. It's really fascinating, and she might pick you to choose which animal she makes next. If she does, you get to keep the animal. She made me a dolphin once.

Hypermommy, you'll need an ADR for that - if you've not already made this LeCellier is pretty much the single hottest ticket in Epcot. I just tried to make an ADR for a client for the week of the 8th and they litereally had two openings that week only, both for lunch. Call today!

I like exploring all the nooks and crannies of the "countries". One time while wandering in the gardens in the back of th UK pavillion I ran into Mary Poppins. She was quiet pleasent fun to talk to for a few minutes until we were discovered by more guests.

I heard They are no longer just selling cheddar soup by its self. That you have to get a meal to get it. I know this is an old post, but does anyone know if you can get just the soup as a snack?

My family like to walk around the World Showcase after Illuminations as the park is emptying. The atmosphere is totally different. It's nice to stroll along at the end of the day and it beats waiting around for buses.

Well during Food & Wine, you can get a small sample of Cheddar Cheese Soup by itself. That was my first time having it since it's very hard to get ADR at Le Cellier.

Wow. I need to take my time next time we go through WS. I thought I've seen everything, but it sounds like I need to sloooowww down and really take in the details. This is a great thread - keep the suggestions coming!

I would suggest seeing all of the different "Santa Clauses" in each of the countries. Make sure you get a times guide because they all come out at different times. Last year was my first to ever be in Disney during the holidays and it was so interesting to learn about different countires culture. Norway is probably my favorite, and Germany is very cool (there are suprises at each of those)

Be sure to take the boat ride on the World Showcase Lagoon, its a short boat ride from Mexicoish to Germany (I believe), and its a different perspective of the showcase.
