I prefer the old classic animation. Like the stuff you could see all the lines on and actually looked hand drawn. The newer classics like lion king, pocahantas, and so forth, the animation style changed too much. Fingers became sqaure, and lines were to geometric. Doesn't mean I didn't like the movies, I just like the classic stuff :)

I'm with bamato, the classic stuff has more character (no pun intended). It was more original. I do like the newer movies but the classics are more near and dear to my heart.

I prefer the older Disney animated films because they contain a significant amount of craftsmanship, creativity, and restraint that is largely absent in the more recent films, many of which I find to be too glossy, bombastic, and generic. Disney animation was at its peak with Snow White, Pinnocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, and some of the package films (specifically Saludos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, and The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad).

I voted Classic, but I'd like to see one of each each year.

The computer animation is new and trendy, its needed to stay competitive with todays movie market. But, The computer movies lack Magic, Story, and Music. They are churned out too quickly to make a quick profit and are without foresite for the company's future.

It was so much more work to animate by hand, that Disney had to make sure that movie was truely worth creating.

Do you really think we will be enjoying, and that Disney will still be profiting from these computer movies 70 years into the future :!: , like Snow White and Seven Dwarfs and its WDW Attraction :?:

They both are great mediums. hand drawn traditional stuffjust reminds me of days gone by. I will most likely be working on the next hand drawn feature "The Princess and the Frog" which is due out Christmas 2009. From the looks of it, I am hoping this will rekindle good ol' disney animation. The designs are beautiful, john musker and ron clements are directing (beauty and the beast, aladdin) and the movie is going to be the old school musical layout. let's hope this one knocks our socks off so we can expect more in the future. :mickey:

i would have to say that both pixar movies and classic disney movies are very good and they all have a story and a moral to tell people. for example a dream is a wish your heart makes and if you can dream it you can make it.
Have a magical day everyone!

Not sure if I have replied to this already or not, but Pixar is as close as you can get with matching the quality films during Disney's finest moments in animated moviemaking. Finding Nemo, Toy Story, and Ratouille (spelling?) are among the best in animation history, and this is a list that includes early Disney classics like Sleeping Beauty, The Jungle Book, Pinocchio, among others.

I prefer classic animation, but as most people have said, the story trumps all. I absolutely loved Lilo and Stitch, it's in my top-3 Disney movies all time. The Pixar movies are all good fun for families, but none in my top 3. Also, CGI can definitely ruin the suspension of disbelief for me in a movie if not done correctly.

I think a mix is nice. I believe in progress and CGI is progress. We don't go to silent films anymore right? But, a classic is always nice, too. I would welcome an animated film every 2-3 years.

I know this isn't what you meant, but it got me thinking...

I thought the CGI in Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin was kind of forced and drew attention to itself, but I like the way Japan has used CGI in some films. Miyazaki has dabbled in it and I think the results are stunning. It just looks like really good and work-intensive conventional animation.

And while I think the preponderance of current TV cartoons which are obviously done in Flash or something similar are visually unimpressive, I've seen some anime where the style is conventional, but they use computers for everything. It looks just like incredibly crisp standard animation. In particular the coloring and shading is just perfect. I assume Disney will be using this kind of tech in the future (and won't be painting individual cels). Maybe they were already doing this before they gave up.

As much as I love the entertainment factor of Pixar movies, nothing beats the originality and heart-felt qualities of a classic animation movie--especially the old classics. cinderella, snow white, beauty and the beast, etc.

I love Pixar movies, too. However classics are my favorite, you honestly can't beat them. I love how Walt contributed to most of them...

Truthfully, I think the storyline and the acting are more important than whether an artist hand drew the cells, or drew them on a computer.

I think those working on Pixar movies are just as wonderful as storytellers as some of the "classic" storytellers. That includes the Producers, Directors, Writers, Animators, and other key positions.

One thing I like is that many (but not all) of the recent Pixar movies are original stories. Whereas, many of the "classic" movies were based on fairy tales and their naratives were adapted for screenplay. But much of the magic can be in the way a story is re-told.

So, Disney gets 5***** (stars) from me for just about every animated movie.
