I felt like something was really missing when the guides were removed. It was kind of like the Jungle Cruise as your experience was dependent on your guide. The boats just look kind of lonely now floating down the stream with no pilot. I really appreciated the time that they put into memorizing the script and how difficult it must have been to recite that over and over. I still love the ride and always will but I think this is just one of many signs that Disney will save a buck wherever they can. (not that there is anything wrong with being fiscally responsible but you have to wonder about their choices sometimes.)zdog wrote:Living with the Land is the best. At first I was disappointed when the live guides were dropped, but as some have mentioned, it is easier to understand the tape. It wasn't like the guides veered from their script, so what's the difference?
I love hearing about the 90lb jackfruit. Is that good? I have no frame of reference. A 9 lb lemon, now there is something meaningful.

If you don't have it already, you should check this out, which features the spellbinding Four Methods of Flush Riveting.Jacca5660 wrote:There is a web site for industrial films. I love them. Remember my DW calls me a geek or was that freak?

That's some good stuff! I have a whole collection of banned cartoons from Disney and WB. They're mostly from WWII, but some are banned because of racial subject matter.Captain Schnemo wrote:If you don't have it already, you should check this out, which features the spellbinding Four Methods of Flush Riveting.Jacca5660 wrote:There is a web site for industrial films. The Disney cartoons are (for the time period) very hard hitting against Germany and Japan. One of my DS's teachers wanted them and she use's them in teaching her history class. I have about 60 or 70 hours of them.

This is utterly off topic from the Land pavillion, but while we're on the subject - there's a company out there called Something Weird that produces, amongst other things, dvds of old 'instructional scare films'... like how to operate your buzz saw safely lest you impale your coworkers, and how not to get diseases when you're on shore leave. Comcast digital has them on demand from time to time. Love those like crazy.Jacca5660 wrote:That's some good stuff! I have a whole collection of banned cartoons from Disney and WB. Spaceship Earth is the last of that style of classic rides in Epcot, so I'm glad its in first place. I really do enjoy Living with the Land. Ellen's Energy Adventure could be a better ride without the overly long speeches. is there a real reason that ride has to be so long? does anyone know? is it 'cause the cars can only run so fast through the ride?

Rumor has it that this ride will be shut down for a complete makeover soon. It's about time, most people know who Ellen is, but kids today don't know Bill Nye. Which is sad, I loved his show growing up.Figment of Imagination wrote:Ellen's Energy Adventure could be a better ride without the overly long speeches.
I'm curious what direction they will take this ride should there be a major makeover as you suggest. I wouldn't mind so much if they recreated it to more closely resemble the original ride and show. Ellen and Bill Nye were somewhat appropriate for the time but their element of the attraction shows more age than the ride itself. I'm always for preserving classic Disney but seeing as this has already undergone one transformation, there is not so much left to preserve.agingerbugg wrote:Rumor has it that this ride will be shut down for a complete makeover soon. I would LOVE IT if they fixed the dinosaur part of the attraction to bring it up to date, and get that UGLY "Ellen" AA out of there. I REALLY hate it when they put people in Historic attractions that don't belong. I think it really confuses the kids seeing Ellen battleing a snake thing (in fact I've always wondered how accurate that thing is. I'm not a dino expert but it's always seemed a bit over the top.)
In the intro movie isn't bad, it might be nice if they updated it some about energy use. Since the information in there is a bit dated.

I know what you're saying, but that sentence is hilarious.jcodirewolf wrote:I would LOVE IT if they fixed the dinosaur part of the attraction to bring it up to date...
One of the best things they could do is put back all the awesome stuff that was there in the beginning, primarily the storm effects. And of course the smells, the fog, and the lava.
I'll plug this site again, because it has some amazing information. If you poke around, you can find out more about all the pre-Ellen effects and technology. I love to promote it, but I also love to complain about the navigation, which is the worst I've ever seen, relative to the quality to the information on the site. A hefty heaping mound of data and great reading, but absolutely maddening if you're trying to find something you read a few months ago.
