Pleasure Island nightclubs closing Sept. 28

Post by JimB » Jun Sat 28, 2008 8:31 am

I heard that in a WDW Cast Member meeting this week WDW announced that they will be closing six nightclubs in Pleasure Island effective Sept 28. These include Mannequins, 8 Trax, BET Soundstage, Motion, Comedy Warehouse and The Adventurer’s Club. They will close at 2AM on Sept. 28. I always visit the Adventurer's Club once during any stay and will miss that one the most. At least I'll see it one more time before it closes.

I've never had the pleasure of going to any of the clubs (pardon the pun!) We always have our kids with us, so the future plans have gone way out of the window.

Yeah, I guess the rumor is true. They are going to make it more family themed....

I think it is because dining in Disney World has become so popular and respected. Recently CNN even did a story on it, see link. I only went to the Pleasure Island clubs one time and that was short lived while on my honeymoon. I am sure that some will miss them!

To me, this is not a bad idea as long as its not sooooo family friendly that it keeps all but families away. I think its good because the last time we were there, there were a lot of people out at the clubs that were not "guests." Mainly locals who I could swear followed us from NJ. It just seemed to ruing the illusion a bit. Keeping it a part of the "World" I think can only be a boon.

Let's hope the Adventurer’s Club stays open - that's not a nightclub per se, and it's the only one I'd be sorry to see close.

i agree with AKRULZ, i would hate to see the Adventurers Club close. it is such a unique experience, not to mention hilarious! at least i will get to go back once more before it closes.

I also don't want the adventurer's club to close. that's my favorite one.

I kind of wonder if it has something to do with making it less appealing to ... more unsavory types of locals who've taken to frequenting PI (for lack of a better phrasing). I've heard a lot of gang-related problems have started to crop up in the last little while. Taking away stuff that appeals to people who are looking to hang out and drink might alleviate that? I dunno.

I agree it's a shame AC and the Comedy club seem to be lumped in with the ones that are getting the axe, though.

This really stinks...right when I was ready to turn 18 they changed the age to get into all the clubs to 21, and now right when I'm a month away from turning 21 they decide to close the clubs down. Well I guess I won't be buying an annual pass=(

No big loss to me, I can definately see why they did it. I remember it being more family-friendly. When we went there when I was in 5th grade, I was able to get into at least some of the clubs. Over the years they have seemed to restrict it more and more, from the cover charge to the age to get in. I think that it no longer fits in with Disney and I can't wait to see what they are going to put in it's place!

I've never been to any of the clubs and I was kinda dreading going this year. Now knowing that they will close I think I may enjoy checking them.

I'm all for more family-friendly theming (esp. since I have two boys and another child coming in November), but I too worry about the extent of the "friendly" bit.

Sometimes, family friendly plans turn into "child friendly" and end up turning the parents away. Ironically, this also pulls the kids away, since the parents are the ones carting them from place to place... :?
