Signed up for the DING service on Soutwest Airlines. With gas prices predicted to go even higher this summer I thought I had nothing to lose.
After only being signed up for one day and DING'd five times, I found great airfair from Chicago Midway to Orlando. Family of four all flying - taxes and everything included - $418.40! Can't believe it!

I think we can all say we hate you for that kind of a steal! What a price - and Midway is so much easier than O'Hare...

G2-4T - I know . . . I can't believe it myself that we got such a great deal. It's one of those being at the right place at the right time things.
And, I think Midway is a lot less hassle than O'Hare too.

"Quickgold" - DING is a new service offered by Southwest Airlines. You sign up for the free service on their website. They then "DING" you with special offers (not an email). You can get alot more detail than I can explain in their website - iflyswa.com

Yeah, anything for the cheap airfares! We've always wanted something like SW to serve MSP International but Northwest literally shuts down competition here [with some very questionable methods too] so they can retain their 90% of the gates at the airport...

Southwest Ding got me a one-way for $39.00 on May 18 (driving down, only need to come home) and then less than $100.00 for round-trip less than a couple of weeks later.
Love Southwest, just wish they had assigned seats.

Props - what a total score! SWA doesn't fly out of DC unfortunately, but we got $98 round trip per person for 5 on Independence Air out of Dulles for June and I was budgeting $150!

you can go on their website and get your seats assigned on the day of your departure . . . don't know if you were aware or not.

Get your seat assigned? Or do you mean get your bourding pass? Last time I road, they still boarded by groups of 40 or so with open seating.

Excuse my ignorance, but if you print your boarding pass in advance, doesn't that include the seating assigment? I just assumed so.

I've never taken SW [evil Northwest has a stranglehold on Mpls - almost 90% of all flights] but have boarded next to it in other cities - they simply print a group # or letter on the ticket and board by group and you take whatever seat you want. At least that was the way it was a couple years ago.

G2-4T is right. They board by groups, and you take whatever seat you like. There are no assigned seats, just like a city bus.
