Rant-N-Rave Magic Kingdom: Main Street

Post by Croaker » May Fri 16, 2008 9:44 am

************ READ BEFORE YOU TAKE THE POLL ************

Recently there is a post about what attraction to remove from the Magic Kingdom. Lets narrow this down even further so we can vent our frustrations and/or applaud the Magic. make sure you keep this thread on track. there will be others to follow that will allow you to pick on areas outside of the focus...but for now keep it on task.

Disect Mainstreet, think back to all of the trips you have taken Take it all in with all of your senses and give us your opinion (thus no one is wrong) on what is perfect with this land? What would you change? What needs improvement? What needs to be left alone? What have you seen or heard that makes this section of the park special. share, complain, etc.

I have been spoiled to have known Main Street when it was all specialty shops as opposed to one long outlet store. I love the outside ambiance. I love the icecream shoppe, candy, etc. but i miss the games (which are in the train station lobby upstairs...check them out they are cool) that were in Casey's Corner. I miss the Magic Shoppe. I realize that mass purchase makes mass profit, but the specialty items were so awesome. I like knowing you can only buy it here! as opposed to being able to purchase it online. but thats just me... I also noticed the vehicles are going out less...not that i rode them...perhaps its the time of year that i go? or has anyone else noticed this too?

To me, Main Street IS Disney. I always have to pinch myself when I see it to make sure that I'm actually there  . I would agree with Croaker though in the fact that it would be cool to see more small-time shops to match the buildings' exteriors.

I love Main Street. It's the first thing you see when you walk into the park and you get that "I'm here" feeling and a smile comes to your face. I love it. Plus I love all the shops. I love going to the candy shops and the souvenir shops. Ahhh....memories

I love Main Street too! It just brings butterflies into my heart when I'm looking down Main Street at the MK and the shopping is great! And who doesn't love the smell of the Bakery/Candy Shoppe??? It's one of the most important parts of the park.

Stepping out on Main Street is when you realize you just left the world behind and truly entered "Where Magic Lives". I love the history of all the names on the upper levels of the storefronts. But I also remember when there were more specialtiy items and I with it would go back to that (but I know it never will).

Best part of the park! The anticipation, and then emerging from under the train station is one of the highlights everytime I visit. the walk up the street in fantastic. The sights, the smells..... it never leaves. I was at Fenway Park a couple weeks back and they have a kettle corn stand. I caught a whiff of it and it reminded me of Main St. I'm not even sure if they sell kettle corn on Main st but that smell took me right back there.

This sums it up for me. I gave it a 4, although it used to be probably the most perfect land in the magic kingdom.

I agree with several others who have already said that Main Street IS Disney. It is the only part of the park that I would leave exactly as is.

Again I agree with Croaker. I remember my my trip to DW as a kid and Main Street literally was like stepping back in time. Each shop was different and sold very unique and specific things. I remember the magic show and the invisible dogs. Cheesy but classic and fun. And I wish the Main Street theater went back to being like a theater and not just a place that sells online items etc.

But still, it IS DISNEY like you all have said. This is the gateway and you can't wait to cross through. I can spend hours here just watching the crowds, looking at all the little Main Street details, and watching the vehicles and performers. And the fudge... oh the fudge!

"Main Street, USA is America at the turn of the century-the crossroads of an era. The gas lamps and the electric lamp-the horse drawn car and the auto car. Main Street is everyone's home town-the heart line of America."

Main Street really sets you up for the park. Nothing else can get you prepared for a Disney day like it can! (It was so awkward when I did the Magic Music days with the school band, and they let us in the park near POTC completely bypassing Main Street. It felt like something was missing!) But, there isn't much to do there attraction-wise. So, I can't rate this like the other lands, which I rate on rides, shows and atmosphere. This is because Main Street is ALL atmosphere. So on the atmosphere scale, 5 out of 5 stars!

The only thing left to like here is the theming elements which have not yet been destroyed. I'm not giving points for what used to be there!

Ignoring the commercialization, the area is pure nostalgia to me. For years it's been the first (and last) area to visit when we go to Disney World. The ambience is like stepping back in time.

Main Street Station to the Castle in WDW. A view just about everyone recognises whether they have been to WDW or not.

I love the theming in this area. Exposition hall is still worth a visit. The almosphere is always wonderful and it has to be one of the best places to watch the parades.

I would also like the stores to be of the "you can only get it right here" kind. Then you have to go there just to see what they have! If you can get what they sell online you can skip the stores altogether right?!?
