I grew up going to DL in the 60's and 70's, so I remember the "old" park. I came across this website... http://theimaginaryworld.com/dtour01.html

I love the photo's on here, I can remember a lot of how the park looked way back in the day. My how things have changed now! I couldn't imagine wearing a dress and heals, no matter how low the heels are!

Great photos. I still remember the original Disneyland sign along Harbor Blvd.

It's funny to see the trees in the Jungle Cruise area about half the size that they are now!

Were those mermaids in the middle of the Submarine Voyage real people? If so, how did they get out there?

Yes, they used to have characters out there. I am sure they took them out by boat. Wouldn't be a bad gig during the summer heat!

I know I was looking at the non-existance of the huge trees, it looks so strange. I was like what is missing.....oh its the large trees! LOL

Yes!!

Probably not as great as you would think. Being out there in that Summer Sun must have been bad, think of being on the beach for several hours without being able to leave.....Oh and they couldn't really swim around in those costumes either. They could wet down their faces, arms, hair, and what have you but that still had to suck being stuck out there not being able to go anywhere. Don;t get me wrong I would love to have atleast seen them BUT.........

One of the reasons they are not there today is that Patrons kept trying to get out to them (male patrons) and they would swim out to talk to them. This actually happen twice I believe, so they stopped having the Mermaids out there.

Those photos are great. I never got to experience the old Disneyland, but its neat to see the history.
If you like those photos, you'd love the book by Mell Kilpatrick who took a ton of photos during construction and of Disneyland when it first opened, too.

The book "Homecoming Photography Book Collection" on that website looks like it's a great book. But there's no price listed on the website. Do you know how much it is?

EDIT: Okay, I see a link to the prices now. If anyone else is interested, there are several books to choose from. Prices range from $20 to $58. I love old pictures of Disneyland, especially the ones with Walt.

Wow, there was a road going to the park entrance back then?? And you could see M. mountain from outside the park?!

I was only born in 1978 and my first trip to Disnyland wasn't until 1999 so I LOVE seeing these photos. Growing up, and still now, my biggest Disney fascination was always "vintage Disneyland." I wish I could go back in time for just one day and see how it felt back then. Awesome, thanks for the link.

When I go onto Yesterland.com and see some of the old attractions it really brings me back to when Disneyland was what seems like in a whole different world back then.
