Well, it's not exactly biodegradable (although it's not really dangerous either), but we are running out.

Quote for those who don't want to click:
"Helium is non-renewable and irreplaceable. Its properties are unique and unlike hydrocarbon fuels (natural gas or oil), there are no biosynthetic ways to make an alternative to helium. All should make better efforts to recycle it."

No kidding!! :D

Those clouds are pretty cool, but yah, people won't be starring up at the sky.

I think that the clouds would be another great Disney touch that would make one's vacation that much more magical :mickey:

 Ha ha. I've seen these. And I took pics too just because I thought it was funny and wierd that it could be seen over DW. They also add a happy face.

As far as the Mickey clouds... I think this is a sweet touch. But will this cause injuries of people tripping or stomping on each other as they walk down the street staring at the sky?

Nice. I always love seeing the odd escaped balloon drifting into the sky (although it is probably tear time for somebody).
Captain Schnemo wrote:The world is running out of helium............... I wonder if they could do the same thing with hydrogen.
Kind of and yes.

From the article Schnemo sites "there are no biosynthetic ways to make an alternative to helium". There are other ways to make helium. They are just very expensive. (make it expensive and people are less likely to waste it)

Hydrogen would provide enough lift however it may require a change the soap formula. The equipment for making the clouds would become WAY more dangerous to operate if hydrogen was used and what would happen if one of these clouds landed in one of the smoking areas  Bonus.

I wonder if, on cooler days, they could use hot air?
Scalding hot Mickey cloud attacks guests :(....perhaps not.

They look really cool, but in the video I think they are too small and rise too fast to be seen as a mickey head very long. If they could make them bigger and "float" longer they might not have to release one every 15 seconds.

It would be funny if they could use these to block out the other ads, etc. that fly over the parks (like the Sea World blimp). Nothing against the other local tourist attractions, but it would be funny to see them fly over only to get screened out by a cluster of Mickey clouds.

Not just very expensive, prohibitively expensive. We need the stuff for science, so kiddie balloons are going to have to work something else out. The price has already started going up, but I think a $50 Mickey balloon would put an end to the tradition.

I doubt a hydrogen soap bomb would sink or ever land, but I suppose if it were a windy day it could move a bit too horizontally. And hydrogen isn't nearly as dangerous as gasoline, and we all drive our explosive tin cans around every day.

Anyway, it's still cool tech.

I don't think they could ever make a successful case to use hydrogen, even though it technically isn't as 'active' as gasoline. The usage is kind of different, I think ... I mean you're not likely to walk through the smoking section of the Magic Kingdom with a pan of gasoline, but you might carry a balloon through. I think people are more ... familiar I guess is the word, with the dangers of gasoline and smoking/whatever else might spark it than they are with hydrogen too.

"Look Timmy! I can make your hair stand on end by rubbing the balloon on it through the magic of static!" Aaand then we need a new Timmy.

It's presumably more the tanks of hydrogen on Main Street to fill the things that'd put the kibosh on it, though. I can't say as I want a random cast member with a hydrogen tank wandering around. It's a shame that's the case, though. As much as I like the balloons, I'd prefer there was still helium left for scientific purposes instead of inflating rubber mouse heads.

Have you ever seen a bullet shot through a hydrogen tank? Nothing happens. Hydrogen goes up, instead of flowing all over the place and trying to burn your skin off.

(Of course, nothing happens if you shoot a bullet through a gasoline tank either, unless you're in a Hollywood movie.)

Might be a bad idea since people are overly afraid of it, but it's awfully safe compared to a lot of stuff we're used to. Certainly no worse than propane tanks on barbecues...but, yes, not as safe as helium.

Not really a good idea for balloons you take home though.

What a fitting post Captain, seeing as you are currently classified as a "Shooting Galleries Gun Cleaner".

Very cool! Having Mickey in the clouds just completes the total immersion in theming. LOL!
