I think it would be very difficult to build a new country in the WS. There's just no room around the WS Lagoon. Plus, they'd need to come up with something native to that country to do (some kind of attraction), and the only thing to do in Russia or Australia is drinking, and you can do that in Germany...

There is space at the old Millenium [sp?] Village that is certainly under-used but other than that it would be tough to fit stuff in.

I had heard long ago that there is actually space in World Showcase for almost TWICE the number of countries, because they planned on expanding by staggering the new pavilions behind the current ones. For example, between Mexico and Norway, there would be a path leading to another nation. There is plenty of room backstage to do this sort of expansion...

I hear there is also room to build two more pavilions on the lagoon, where the current ones are placed, in the space presently used by the temporary Spanish pavilion and the African Outpost.

As to what will be built, there have been so many rumors... Russia, Australia, Spain, Switzerland, etc. Unfortunatly, as with so many Disney rumors, this is probably just wishful thinking. We all love World Showcase and hope it will be expanded, but it doesn't seem that there's anything concrete on the drawing boards yet.

But it never hurts to stay optimistic!

I don't think they'll change the Millenium Village, because currently it's being used as convention and special event space. That's a HUGE money maker for Disney, so I have the feeling we won't see it being turned into another nation anytime soon. :(

You may be right, it would be nice to have another pavillion though.

I've heard rumors of new pavillions for a while now. Spain was the most credible but it seemed to have vanished.

I forgot about the space where the Spain test area was - and it did seem like that was in serious consideration at one point... And I agree with the point on making an attraction for the pavillion, something like a ride or movie would be nice for whatever country is added. For now - wishful thinking it seems considering how many times that idea has surfaced and never actually happened...

It was a new pavillion built next to the UK for their 2000 celebration, a bunch of new countries were featured in there. It was, in my mind, a bit of a let down considering Disney standards. The building [looks like a huge tent] still stands there and can be see from the promenade behind big doors.

Yeah, just open for special (usually private) events and conventions. I believe it's now called "World Showplace."

Here's a link.

I thought they could have done better.

It was like a World Showcase lite... couple of countries in big building selling mostly food.
