Disney Workers Recover Wedding Rings Mistakenly Thrown Away

Post by SimonTemplar » Apr Mon 21, 2008 10:10 pm

I would say that this couple would confirm the magic at WDW!! :D

ORLANDO, Fla. — Walt Disney World seems to have worked its magic on a Massachusetts couple who accidentally threw away three platinum and diamond wedding rings.

While tidying up their villa as they prepared to leave the park late last week, Paul Campanale dumped a cardboard bowl, not knowing the container inside it held his wife Karen's engagement, wedding and five-year-anniversary rings.

Park employees warned the couple from Worcester, Mass., that recovering the jewelry was all but impossible. So on Friday, the Campanales and their two children loaded onto a Magical Express bus and headed to the airport.

Back at the Wilderness Lodge resort, executive housekeeper Drew Weaver realized that trash from the Campanales' villa hadn't reached the industrial-size compactor yet. He and seven other volunteers donned protective clothing, emptied a parking lot bin and waded through bag after bag of rubbish to find the rings. And they did.

Paul Campanale, 37, a chemist, received the good news on his cell phone and Weaver met the family to deliver the rings. Karen Campanale, 35, a teacher, said she was shocked by the find.

"That's not the first time we've gone through trash — oh, no," Weaver said. "We don't always find things. Many times we come up empty. But we didn't this time."

What a great story! I can't imagine the sadness that would have been associated with this family's WDW memories if those rings hadn't been found.

Wow that's crazy. I lost a Tiffany bracelet at Disneyland last November but it was never recovered. They told me, which I still don't know if I believe, that before the trash goes to the compactor they have people whose sole job is to go through the garbage by hand. I asked why and the woman told me it was because many people lose things in the garbage so they have to go through it. This was at the lost and found. I don't know it was a a little strange to me. Apparently they never found my bracelet, or someone liked it. I hope their name is Jennifer ha because it had my name on it.

Hate to say this but it sounds like something I would do to my wife.

I'm always "picking up" stuff and tossing it because it looks like trash to me. Only to find out it's not trash.

That's an amazing story. I'm sure they get calls like that all of the time, but it is truly amazing that they actually went through all the trash to find the rings.

Neat story! :D

My dad once lost his hat on the safari ride... a few months later it arrived in the mail stomped on by elephants! But a hat is nothing as valuable, or hard to find as those rings. Thanks for sharing!

In Dec. of 1996 my then "future" (though not known then) wife, a friend and I traveled to Disneyland and stayed at the Disneyland hotel. Shortly after our trip the friend received a package in the mail from Disney returning some things accidently left behind.

Clearly not as unique or big of a deal as the story above, but nice that Disney always seems to do the right thing versus the "cost effective" thing. They had our contact information form the reservation. They could have just called and asked how he wanted it sent back (via COD).
