New Disney Shows on Travel Channel!

I watched it, it was ok. I think I have seen it before though. I have to admit that a little of Samantha goes a long way. Don't get me wrong, I like her but some times I think she is doing the show to appeal to children not adults.

They have done one of these around Vegas, and one on cruises. Without seeing the one on Disney yet. My guess is it's stuff like..

"shop around" - look at several travel sites and call yoru authorized Disney Travel Planner
"look for discounts" - Disney Visa, Workplace Discounts
"don't go durning the busy season" - Disney rates are seasonal try and not go durning spring break, Summer or christmas
"Disney Dinning Plan" - a great way to save money
"Make a budget, and stick to it" - make sure you plan for gifts, snacks etc..
"Don't rent a car" - use DME and Disney transport
"Stay on property" - for EMH and the Transport

Travel Channel can fill an hour with stuff like that. Considering they only need 40 minutes of content per hour. You pad it with summaries between the breaks and a review at the end. Stick in a few "experts" with sound clips. Then add some stock footage of the parks, with a voice over "expanding" on what the expert just said.

You are probably right. One of the things in the book to save money is to order a "double cheeseburger" at the Electric Umbrella in Epcot, and to order an "extra bun," which costs about $0.80. Then, you can make two cheeseburgers for less than the cost of purchasing two individual cheeseburgers.

There aren't a great deal of tips in the book, and it is true that most of them are "common sense." But like I said in my earlier post, I wonder if they will mention any of the non-practical ideas, like the "double cheeseburger" trick on the Travel Channel show.

i had to laugh when i read this....reminds me of when my uncle went to Palm Springs and all he could talk about was the dollar menu they had at McDonalds...he loved it....ate Lunch Breakfast and Dinner ....$12 a day in Palm Springs....um...sure cause thats what i want to do. (Rachael Ray would be proud!)..perhaps if your going to Disney and have to split a double cheeseburger...you should re-think your vacation. or wait till they offer free dining.

I find that with her Disney shows more than her Passport to Europe (and to some extent the great hotels) shows. On the Europe series in particular she would make sort of off the cuff sarcastic comments mixed in with the perkiness that took some of the edge off (or put edge on, depending on how you look at it).

When she does Disney, it's pretty much just all perky. I attribute that partly to the subject matter, but also partly to the fact that I'm sure Disney goes over stuff with a fine tooth comb to make sure it fits the image they want to portray. I like her as well, but agree the Disney shows can be just a little over the top for me too.

I'd give it a 3 out of 5 stars. It was enjoyable, but not overly informative if you're a WDW veteran of any sort. I taped it, but won't keep it now that I've seen it. I would agree that the over-perkiness gets a little old for me, and it doesn't seem that way on her other shows (at least not that much).

I agree. But there are some people out there who must need/ want this kind of advice, or there would not have been a book written about it (and now a Travel Channel episode).

Well, I spend more money on food than anything else when visiting WDW and while you should know that you are paying for the price of convenience I don't see anything wrong with splitting a cheeseburger or meal every now and then. My wife and I always split a large drink because she won't finish one on her own anyway and it's kind of a waste to get two drinks when we can make do with one. These things add up over the course of three meals a day for a week or more. If this makes the difference in someone being able to make a once in a lifetime visit to WDW then what's the problem with that? I don't have kids yet but I can only imagine what it would be like to have to feed a family of four or five at the parks every day. Just for my wife and I it easily exceeds the cost of tickets and or transportation to get there.

ghosthost: i must admit i havn't seen the show yet so i'm actually only assuming what they said and what i have heard.....
I have a family of 4. two girls.

I agree with you on sharing, we only order 3 meals when eating out not due to cost but due to amount of food. We eat as my friends call it "Chinese Style" where we order the meals then portion it so we all get a part of each others meals.

Point taken on the meals in Disney for those making a once in a lifetime trip, but what i truly meant wasnt' anyone who can't afford disney don't come...but rather, if they are going to show me how to save money on food...show me something like the buffet at Trails End where its inexpensive and filling. or show me the kool-aid in my water bottle vs. the soda pop. not buy an extra bun for .80 and order a double cheeseburger. when they had the 1/2 chicken and 1/2 ribs at flaming bbq place in Animal Kingdom i would always get that and my wife and I would split it.

Well I saw Disney Spluge! (and I've seen Sam's show too.) The wonders of TiVo.

I liked Sam's show better. It was the standard perky show.

Spluge was okay, they followed, several families though a no-expensive spared trip. So they all got guides and had a suite at the concierge level, the couple used the Grande One (or what ever the GF boat is called.) at any rate, I've never been a fan of the Lifestyles of the rich and famous type programing.

Yeah I watched the splurge one too and I wasn't impressed. I don't need somebody to walk me around the parks and plan my day for me. I am more than capable to get my own fastpasses and make my own dinner reservations. I don't care about priority seating either. So to me it was pointless to pay extra for a guide when I can do all that on my own, not a problem. The couple celebrating their anniversary, was way more than anything I would ever do. I go to Disney for the fun in the parks not the stuff on the outside at hotels and whatnot. I don't know I wasn't impressed and agree that I am not a fan of the lifestyles of the rich and famous either.

I have to agree on that. I thought the splurge show was a little on the boring side. It showed all the things Disney has to offer that you really don't care for. I can't wait to see the Samantha Brown show.
