voice overs in disney movies
Hey everyone, Something has been bothering me about disney movies and I thought i would see if anyone else had the same opinion. I am sitting here watching Bugs Life with my niece and am notcing Brad Garrets voice, playing Dim, who is also the voice of Bloat in Nemo, and Gusteau in Rattatooie among others. This bothers me. When an actor does a voice for a character they become that character. It ruins it for me when they use actors for other movies. Another example is John Razzenburger! Are you teling me there are not enough actors to go around? Tell me what you think......... Judie

John Razzenburger has played a character in a lot of Pixar's films. There's a joke about this at the end of cars where the cars are watching car versions of all the Pixar movies showing scenes with all of John Razzenburger's Pixar characters. The truck character from Cars notices that all the voices are the same. (I forgot exactly what hes says, it made me laugh the first time though).
I don't really have a problem with Pixar using the same actors, as long as they get some new voices with every movie. I think most repeat actors have had realtively small roles.
Similarly, I've often wondered how many kids realize that Ellen from the Universe of Energy has the same voice as Dory in the Seas with Nemo and Friends.
edit: haha I don't know why I said John Goodman. Revised to John Razzenburger

Funny thing about him (John Ratzenberger) and Pixar; they actually believe he is good luck. I can't remember if it was Lasseter or Brad Bird, but in one of the commentary tracks they mention that he's good luck for Pixar and they make a point of including him in all of their films.Tinkerbell wrote:Another example is John Razzenburger! I kind of wonder if they have that idea about some of the other actors they 'reuse', or it's just that they try to reuse them because they have good working experiences/relationships with them.
It doesn't really bother me all that much, though it would if they used the same voices for the main characters multiple times. I think it's kind of fun to figure out which character John is in each movie, for instance. I never thought about the Energy/Dory connection. I wonder how many little kids watch Ellen in the afternoon to hear Dory.

Considering that Pixar has gone through 12 years of releasing movies so far and not a single flop-----this case must be true!DisBeamer wrote:Funny thing about him (John Ratzenberger) and Pixar; they actually believe he is good luck. Brad Garett is an excellent voice actor, which is why you'll hear him in Disney and also non-Disney movies. Another excellent example is Patrick Warburton (spelling?), who has contributed to Emperor's New Groove, Bee Movie, Family Guy, Hoodwinked, and much more..

Seriously. If I was in their position, I'd be superstitious about it by now too.DIAC1987 wrote:Considering that Pixar has gone through 12 years of releasing movies so far and not a single flop-----this case must be true!

I don't see it as a problem what so ever. That's almost like saying that sean conery shouldn't have been in any other movies, because he was James Bond. Does that make the other movies he's done bad? Being a voice actor, is no different the being a regular actor, other then you don't see their face.

I actually prefer it when they use the same voice actors in different movies, especially when they aren't overly-famous stars. I'm tired of the well-known voice actors in these new Disney movies. I'm a bit of a purist, and I absolutely love watching all the classic Disney films with the same actors used over and over in different films.
