what's not disney about the word "kingdom" or "tower"? disney uses these names everywhere
That's my whole problem with the name. (not so much the "tower" part because, well, that's what it is  , but the "Kingdom" part). I'm no marketing expert, but I have a feeling the only reason they chose that name was because it was easily marketable, just like "dreams" and "magic" and "wishes". Those words don't even mean anything to me anymore, they're just words.

If they had wanted to give the resort a dull name, they would have named the original tower "Kingdom Tower" back in 1971.

And then there's the design of the building... arg... I have so many issues with this new tower. :x

Although I suppose as a DVC member, I will want to stay there once it's complete.

Everything I had read said "Kingdom Tower" was a fan nickname. Not official in anyway.

i was wondering that myself, too, yzf...i mean, the actual contemp dvc isn't even "official" yet, even though we all know what's going on with it...

but i couldn't find anything saying that it was definitely going to be called "kingdom tower" that sounded like it was definite...

anyone have any sources or anything? i mean, this could be a "code" sort of name, too...kind of like how the nintendo wii was called "nintendo revolution" when it was still in the rumor phase....

i just always assumed that they'd call it something like "the contemporary villas" or "the villas at the contemporary"....

I think the most disturbing thing is that the name is plural. Are they going to build another eyesore when they finish this one?

The greed is really appalling, and should pretty much close the book on any fantasies of Iger saving WDW.

I hope they don't plan on changing the name of the entire resort

edit: looks like I wasn't the only one that thought of a retirement home

"There is still the little matter of Sarasota Springs DVC and Animal Kingdom Lodge DVC, both of which have unsold units."

sarasota? lol
 My grandparents call it 'Sarasota' too and we have to correct them everytime. It's obviously a fan blog which may or may not be accurate. I just found it in a google search for "Kingdom Tower Disney" and thought it was worth pointing out the images the tower name conjures.

Mouseplanet had a story this week that the timeshare license permit lists 'Kingdom Towers' as the official name (link here), so it does seem like that's at least what the official name of the timeshare corporation (or whatever it is) will be. I suppose it's possible the resort itself will be called something different but it doesn't seem too likely at this point.

I'm really hoping the plural doesn't mean they'll knock down the other garden wing and build another tower. The only thing I can think that'd stop them from doing that is that you'd have almost no view of the MK from that side of the existing Contemporary Tower.

I have always like how the Contemporary really stands out. Granted, it does look like a water cooling facility from a power plant, but I still like it. And, throw in the Monorail shooting straight through the Grand Canyon Concourse, and you have a total classic.

I think the addition is great. VC is growing with new opportunities and opening up the resorts to the VC members is a great Idea.

I am very disappointed with this. It is very un-Disney and once again confirms that the bean counters are all about the executive's bonus and not about the guest experience and enjoyment.

Yeah...a bit disappointed here too, but then again, I am a romantic...I still frown upon the whole DVC concept to begin with... (No offense to anyone) I mean if the wife and I had the money, I might consider it, but to me time-share and Disney really do not go together...

From the pics I have seen, it looks like the new building is round (Can someone else confirm or deny?) If that is the case, Its almost very easy to see another "hidden Mickey " in the future.

Scenario : Kingdom Towers 1 is built
When opened the other garden wing is demolished
Kingdom Towers 2 gets built.
With additional and changed landscaping/pool/whatever, the "updated" Contemporary looks like a hidden mickey from the air.

While this is a bit out there, I could see some of the bean counters (love that name) thinking in this direction.

It's actually a "C"
I personally own DVC and love it. You are right, Timeshare and Disney do NOT go together and i hesitate to ever say I have a Timeshare at WDW. I explain it's like a Timeshare done with Disney style.
