Oh yeah - no bitterness at all... It was more than Eisner though - a lot more. With any luck the work at DL with bringing back the classics and spiffing up the park will rub off all around. At least they kept one of the two intact - I think there would have been riots in CA if that had been messed with...

I think the lesson they've learned is that they can ruin pretty much whatever they want and still make big bucks. If Disneyland is the Last Stand against the defilement of the parks, the war is over, given what they're planning on doing to Pirates.

I like the preshow at ETRUNM, with the late great Phil Hartman voicing Zazu's talent agent. I love his voice.
Same here.

i was bummed when they decided to change it. the enchanted tiki room at wdw was definitely one of my top 3 favorite attractions when i was a kid...the other 2 were figment and 20,000 leagues....figures, they screwed up or removed all my faves:(

back then i hadn't been to wdw in a couple of years, and then went when they were rehabbing it, so it was a good 5 years since i had seen the original when i saw the new one. i think the part with zazu singing the whole do that conga song is the most obnoxious part of it.

i got to go to DL in july of 2006, so i was really excited to see the old show. i loved it!

i heard rumors that they changed the tiki room at wdw due to poor attendance...hah, it's not much different now, i'd imagine! we never have to wait on long lines or anything to see the new one. i don't think the change to zazu/iago did anything for the tiki room!

As the DLR Tiki Room proved, all you need to do to bump up attendance is, I don't know, actually light the torches out front, keep the audio running, keep the roof from leaking, and generally make it seem like the attraction is open. All they've done to the DL Tiki Room is freshen up the 40-something year old ride, and when I went there in mid-November on a weekday, the room was 2/3 full. No new, crass, cynical post-modern downgrade necessary.

Of course, the Dole stand at the side of the waiting area also helps - people buy Dole Whip, and then sit down for the show while they eat!

I wonder how difficult it would be to change it back to the Old Management? I just don't see the Under New Management as being a beloved attraction to anyone under the age of 8. My daughters saw the original at DL in '05 and have seen the new one at WDW a few times. They prefer the original. So, why not change it back?

i bet it wouldn't be costly or hard at all to restore it to the original. all the parts are there, they'd just need to get rid of the extra ones and restore the old AA programming and audio....i assume, anyway.

i doubt they'd ever do that, though, unless it was for some nostalgic anniversary and they had a gimmick for it. otherwise, newer visitors might complain and they'd have to admit that they screwed it up. i just don't see them benefitting from taking zazu and iago out, etc. oh well :(

True. With our luck they will take out zazu and iago after their appearl diminishes and add other characters to keep the annoyance factor high!

Tokyo is getting Stitch added to their Tiki Room.

Disney hasn't even learned a lesson. As far as they're concerned the "Under New Managment" was a hit and worth replicating in some form.

Stupid Disney.

Well, CheshireStitch, this picture is for you... everyone else, shield your eyes...

http://www.wdwnewstoday.com/2008/02/16/ ... itch-room/

It's pretty scary, especially the line under the picture that reads, "Stay tuned for more info on this weird developement that may impact Walt Disney World in the near future." Especially if they're thinking along the same lines as Calypso, a few posts back.

thank yoy SO much for the linky, cheshire! :D

but i doubt they'll do it at wdw...especially because they have stitch's great escape.

also, i think stitch has a bigger fan basis in japan...they sell a whole lot more stitch merchandise there...and i end up having to track it down on ebay;)
