Spending a day at Disney watching these contestants... I hardly stop for the entertainment in the parks, that are Disney. Although, watching the street performers in EPCOT is fun for me. It would just be a waste for me to stay in that one auditorium. My sister goes for the Soap Weekend every year... it hurts me just to think of that time wasted in the parks chasing soap star.

There's a lot of non-Disney stuff in the Studios. That's part of why the Studios concept is flawed...they're attaching themselves to outside entities they can't control.lebeau wrote:While I'm not interested in this, I am surprised by the extent of the negativity here. Is it because this is a non-Disney franchise?
What if, say, Aerosmith were suddenly involved in a huge scandal? There are too many Captain EO-type possibilities here.
The Studios concept is all about using the ideas and accomplishments of others, rather than doing something creative on your own.
That said, I'm not too upset about this, because the Studios are where the flavor-of-the-month garbage is supposed to go. It'll be around for a while, and will eventually be replaced, maybe even by something good if we're lucky. Probably not, but the potential is there.
Also nothing classic was ruined to create this attraction, so they can do whatever they want there, as far as I'm concerned.
That's pretty much my reaction. I doubt Disney is sinking too much money into this thing. And it might appeal to someone. If not, it;ll be replaced or shuttered up sooner or later.Captain Schnemo wrote:

It's not like it's replacing anything.
Although your Aerosmith comment got me thinking. I'd almost like to see that happen just to see how Disney would respond. I always kind of wonder what they will do when a member of Aerosmith dies.

I pretty much feel the same as everyone else. I don't really care that it's there...
I just wish they had put it in a new good show or something instead of American Idol... ok, ok, so American Idol is still a "show". What I mean is a narrative show with a storyline. The stage in there is huge and I remember Doug Live being pretty good...although I was also younger back then. The again, I guess the only reason ANYTHING is going in there is because Disney got the rights to use American Idol. I'm sure as soon as it closes (my bet: between 2 and 6 years) the theater will become vacant for a long time again.

if you guys don't want to check it out, then don't. I bet at least for the 1st year, this wil be the most popular attraction they have. Idol mania is bigger than anything out there right now. DHS is supposed to have other entites than Disney, that is the entire concept. To show entertaiment, not just Disney, but all aspects. It is my least fav. park out of all, but i'd still rather go than and universal park!

I love how everyone complains about Idol being "non-Disney" and therefore "cheap" and "not Disney-like" yet no one here complains about Star Tours or Indiana Jones Adventure/Epic Stunt Spectacular and those are VERY non-Disney.

I personally couldn't care less what's "Disney" or not while there. Aerosmith, Twilight Zone, and the Great Movie ride may not "be Disney", but they have Disney touches to them. Same thing with Star Tours and Indy (both the show in WDW and the ride in DLR). a place in WDW for people to get a "Fastpass" to an actual audtion for American Idol is a bad idea on the part of the resort management, IMHO. I would've kept WWTBAM:PI! (maybe reducing the audience size or something) to move in there, rather than put American Idol in there.QuickGold wrote:I love how everyone complains about Idol being "non-Disney" and therefore "cheap" and "not Disney-like" yet no one here complains about Star Tours or Indiana Jones Adventure/Epic Stunt Spectacular and those are VERY non-Disney.

I gotta wonder why you would prefer an attraction based on a game show that was over-exposed and cancelled years ago over an attraction based on a show that is currently on the air with very high ratings.js3901 wrote:I personally couldn't care less what's "Disney" or not while there. I get that it's "non-Disney". I get that a lot of us don't have any interest in it. But obviously the American Idol brand is a popular one. And if "Disney touches" can make an Aerosmith ride acceptable, why couldn't Disney make a suitable attraction out of one of the most popular shows on television?
Sure, it could bomb. But Millionaire already failed in Disney's eyes. There's no reason to bring it back over something that has the potential to be a hit.

After calming down, I may be more reasonable to this but I just see no pleasure out of seeing other people perform on stage when I'm on vacation. Maybe some people do and that's good but I guess it's better they put this in a stage that had nothing in there for awhile anyway then put this in a place that housed a good attraction. So more power to DHS I guess.
I know this is probably your first flight...and it's mine too...ha, ha

while its great to fill an empty theater.....unless you have great talent, i prob dont want to wait in a line to see avg joe's sing/audition. if i did i woould go to my local bar...
but those attractions have built a great ride/show around a concept. auditions for american idol? I need to pay to get intoDHS for that? where as Star tours has a great queue and ride. Indy shows you how stunts are preformed....what will idol do? show me how people audition? Wow soooo novel.....
But I do admit its good to fill the theater and that it prob will be popular....just not something I will participate in unless I hear really good things about the show

Last I checked Idol is immensely popular and I don't think there will be much of an issue with filling it up.meticulus9 wrote:QuickGold wrote:I love how everyone complains about Idol being "non-Disney" and therefore "cheap" and "not Disney-like" yet no one here complains about Star Tours or Indiana Jones Adventure/Epic Stunt Spectacular and those are VERY non-Disney.

My point with my original argument is don't call bringing Idol "cheap" or "selling out" when Disney has done it with Indy or Star Tours or Tower of Terror and then don't complain about that.
