I wouldn't hold my breathe waiting for a 5th gate.
I think Disney realizes they have a lot of internal matters to resolve first. First and foremost the fixing of DCA. This billion dollar project is going to keep Disney busy for a while, not to mention the other attractions Disney is rumored to be adding to its existing parks. AK still isn't a full day park, and DHS is a 3/4 day park at best. I think the errors of DCA have made Disney realize that just adding a park does equal instant revenue. Plus the capital expenditures to fix DCA will probably discourage the bean counters from allocating more money for a 5th gate.
I think its more likely they would add a new park to another country then add a 5th gate to WDW.
It's fun to talk about but I would so rather them spruce up the current gates then add a new one.

Disney should never think of itself as competing with Universal Studios or Sea World. Folks go to WDW because they want DISNEY. Disney has to continue to lead, to do things that haven't been done yet, and not to repeat itself. "You can't beat pigs with pigs."
I don't go to WDW for thrill rides, though I like them. I go for a Disney adventure.

You've hit the nail on the head.rdeacon wrote:I wouldn't hold my breathe waiting for a 5th gate.

Basically, Disney can spend money elsewhere (overseas, CA) and see a bigger return on their investment than they would get by building a fifth gate in FL.
There's a limit to the amount of time people can spend on a WDW vacation. Some people struggle to squeeze in all 4 parks as-is.
On the other hand, if they can make DCA into a destination unto itself rather than just an overflow park for DL, they can see a huge return on that investment.

One of the main reasons the programs exist is because they are cheap labor. On top of getting paid right around min. wage, the gov't covers most of the salary sicne they are educational programs. Disney only puts in about $1 or so per cast member.Even with those programs, I hear they struggle for staff. Obviously, the staffing problem is why those programs exist in the first place.

Rumor has it that according to a release by the MotleyFool, Disney is looking at adding a 5th theme park. it will be smaller and all about the villians. This is just a rumor, but I've heard a couple of the Podcasts mention that they believe it is in the works as well. It makes sense since they can't let Universal "one-up" them when Harry Potter opens up. A fifth theme park would sure bring in a lot more people and keep them away from Universal.

Yeah I commented on that on the last page. That Motley Fool article was part of a speculative series one of the blog authors was writing 'from the future'. It seems to have duped a lot of the pod community (I heard it from Dis Unplugged and they seem to have bought it hook line and sinker - I assume they'll be talking about it again this weekcastmember04 wrote:Rumor has it that according to a release by the MotleyFool, Disney is looking at adding a 5th theme park. it will be smaller and all about the villians. Regardless of the authenticity of the 'release' in the article though, I do think they'll do something at WDW to combat the Harry Potter thing. Interesting to see what it'll be.

My guess is it will be business as usual. Seriously, what was Disney's answer to Islands of Adventure?DisBeamer wrote:Yeah I commented on that on the last page. They have Toy Story Mania and I guess the American Idol thing coming up. They'll just continue to add and revamp attractions the same way they have been.
One of the reasons they "lost" Harry Potter is they didn't want to shell out the money for the license. It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to turn around and spend a lot of money in reaction to someone else getting the rights.

Personally i think the way to go for disney is just to try and expand the parks they have rather than build new ones. As lebeau said first time visitors and even frequent visitors from other countries find it hard to hit all the parks as it is. There are so many attactions and shows.
One thing i will say Disney really needs to focus their money on building up the Disney Studios park in Paris because nothing is there really at the moment and you can see everything in about two hours.
