I don't believe any of them are closed. They are all up and running. And incidentally it would be much worse for a 40+ Guy standing in line for those rides.

Even better - Alice has recently been upgraded with new digital projections.

Man that broke my heart when they closed Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. It was sad, there was even a website dedicated trying to keep it . . .
It was so clever! And what a great little cartoon movie.
As someone stated earlier they really are "creatively stifled." I guess the question is are they stifled by the marketing people, the accountants, management. What on earth are they thinking -- what would Walt think of some of the changes they have made???

Lion Sleeps Tonight wrote:sorry, im out of it when it comes to walt disney world, but why did they get rid of mr toad's wild ride?
Lion, I just went on the Keys to the Kingdom tour and asked that same question. Our guide said it was because when they asked guests the names of the other characters from Mr. Toad, they couldn't name them so Disney thought it was out of date. To me that's like asking the names of the Ghosts in the Haunted Mansion! Why get rid of a ride everyone loves? I think it was because Pooh is easier to merchandise, but that's just me.
Off topic here - I went on Country Bears for the first time in a long time recently and was greatly amused. Not only that, but it was packed! Hope they won't remove that classic in WDW.
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

Your not the only one who thinks that. It's no secret that todays children don't know those old tales as much as the new ones. They are force feed these stories from a very early age. I'm not saying that Winnie the Pooh is horrible, I'm just saying that there are better stories out there that aren't getting to the kids.
Sorry for that it's just that Winnie the Pooh annoys me, I deal with a lot of slow wits in my working environment and they all remind me of the Characters. I just can't enjoy a film or TV show that reminds me of WORK!

We rode Mr. Toad's Wild Ride in '05 at DL and the girls had NO idea what it was about. So I bought the Disney DVD of the tale of Mr. Toad and the Legend of Sleepy Hollow so my daughters can appreciate these older tales.

I would guess that it was more important that the kids wouldn't want to buy Mr. Toad merchandise (not that Disney actually offered any, mind you).
The thing that killed the Toad was the size of the attraction, which was big enough to shoehorn in both a ride and shop. Pooh is such a cash cow for Disney that the ride was inevitable, but there's no excuse for trashing Toad. Especially when they completely paved over 20,000 Leagues a short while later.

For those of you who didn't know, there's a website where someone is recreating the ride with computer animation. It's not done yet, but the progress is pretty cool. Check it out.

If Disney based their decision to get rid of Mr. Toad's because people couldn't name the other characters, they should have done more research. A guest may not know the story, but a ride can introduce people to a story they didn't know before and increase sales of the video. Further, it's still a cool ride and people obviously miss it.
I'm also not a huge fan of Pooh. I think Eeyore needs a shrink.
