No, they are just refurbing the exterior (thatching, outdoor plaza, Dole Pineapple station) and touching up the interior. If they made the Tiki Room like WDW, rioting just might occur

Yeah, this is always a tough subject. I don't have a child so I can't view from their perspective.

All of us die hards like the old attractions because that's what we grew up with. When they change them it's like a part of us dying. But, for those that have never seen the old attraction do they like the new ones? Probably... and I'm sure in 20 years when those versions go away they will be complaining just like us. Yes/No?

Hard to tell, the newer ones aren't always as "loveable" as the oldies, they seem more trendy rather than timeless. Some, like Pooh and the new Autopia and Timekeeper I can see being classics down the road since they have the timeless feel to them but something like the new Tiki Room doesn't have it in my opinion...

I prefer the old tiki room... The songs were just better. Not that I have a hugh problem with the new one. The only issue I have is the new version seems to be alot shorter. You get in..then bam you outta there. Maybe that is one of the reasons Disney reworked it, to get a faster turnover?

When I saw the new Tiki room in April 2000, I felt like I had been slapped in the face. I was 17 years old at the times and the last time I had been to the Magic Kingdom I was 12, 11, and 8. (I had also been to DLR as a younger child.) So it's not like I had had several years or even half a lifetime to get attached to the old way, yet I still did. And I did grow up with The Lion King and Aladdin, as I was right there in the target age when those movies were released, yet Zazu and Iago were not welcome in the Tiki Room as far as I was concerned.

By now I've become used to the "new management" and I do like the part with the Tiki Goddess, but I'll tell you what--I was thrilled when I got a chance to visit DLR last June and go back to the old school original! I suprised myself at how much I remembered; I even sang the Birdie song and I haven't heard that in years! Alas, even in Disney World things must change sometimes...

I have to say that I'm in the minority. I prefer the new management. I think the songs are better (with the exception of Friend Like Me -- I like the original song better).

I guess I haven't always been upset when old favorites have been revamped. Now, if they change Spaceship Earth, I'll definitely change my tune.

You mean you don't prefer Iago's screeching version?

And the barren wasteland that is the exit of SSE is quite a change, I'd say! God, they could at least put a gift shop in there or something. It's so depressing...

I dont mind the new version. It's amusing. If you want to see bad re-do's, look at Journey into imagination & Stitch.

I never saw the original Journey, so I can't compare. However, I like Stitch better than Alien Encounter! AE was cool the first time I did it when I was 12 years old. Every time after that was just lame. Stitch at least has great entertainment value and the audio-animatronics are quite slick!

It's all about SYNERGY. From day one of Traditions at the Disney Institute, that was pounded into us with big Mickey gloves. Though Walt was a big believer in taking Disney Studio productions and tying them together with Disneyland, Eisner was the one who really took the idea and ran with it.

The Enchanted Tiki Room Under New Management is a perfect example of Eisner's Synergy push. In WDW the show didn't have the history or heritage of it's sibling at Disneyland, so he knew there wouldn't be as much hoopla in Florida about removing the original show. It's not a bad idea, really. "Tiki's" at WDW was never as popular as at DL, and if something could be done to put a few more behinds in the seats, all the better.

From working in City Hall, I can tell you that people who never saw the original show really enjoy the new one. However, as these boards prove, for those Disney purists like me, Under New Management just doesn't have the same magic as the old Enchanted Tiki Room.

Thats for sure... Whole training classes based exclusively around Disney Synergy... Walt merely took the brand and explored the posibilities that his characters could become to make people happy, but Eisner wanted to get more people into the parks, and to do that, advertising new attractions with newer characters will bring families and their children running into the parks.

I admit, I didn't like the update all that much either, and there were definitely other attractions that needed to be fixed up before The Tiki Room. However, in Eisner's eyes, a shiny brand new attraction will pull in twice as many people as the previous attraction with some new lighting effects.

I can say that my oldest who has seen both versions, prefers the new version much more than the old...but she is 12 and more closely relates to the newer characters.
I prefer the original because that is the way it was meant to be...

The old Tiki room was a great place to go take a nap! The new version is much better at keeping you awake.
