Is Disney World adding any new theme parks?

Post by sag746 » Jan Wed 30, 2008 3:18 pm

I wish Disney would add another theme park. How about one tied to all of their movies. Peter Pan, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Breast, Pochontas, Aladin, etc.
Hope you have a great day

I understand. I was thinking of a specific theme park with a ride for each of their movies. Instead of a Peter Pan flight, they could have something to do with a Pirate fight with Captain Hook, or a submarine ride based on the Little Mermaid.
I know they want to have more turbulent rides for the teenage crowd.

Thanks

Steve

Isn't the idea of Disney's Hollywood Studios that it's tied to the movies?

there are always rumors out there of a 5th gate. a couple of candidates have been a park themed on villians, a sports-themed park (think Wide World of Sports only huge), and the Disney's America concept (this one has been at almost all Disney Resorts in the world. I don't see one being built in the next 5 - 10 years at least, as the Disney Company has already announced several other projects in the works to be built first.

Well people could say that Disney's Hollywood Studios is mainly based on Pixar movies and maybe this person was implying that they should base a park on the classics but maybe I am wrong.

However it won't happen and I really don't see a 5th gate happening at least for another 10+ years. They still have to update the 4 gates that they already have first!
I know this is probably your first flight...and it's mine too...ha, ha

Haha. Well spotted, yzf :)

Anyway, the studios as a whole isn't necessarily dedicated to the Disney classics, however.. The Animation Courtyard is very much dedicated (with the exception of the Playhouse Disney show) to the Disney animated classics with the Magic of Disney Animation attraction (Which is housed in the same building that used to be Walt Disney Feature Animation Florida, where several of the animated classics were made, Mulan, Lilo and Stitch, etc) and the Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Let's also not forget the Beauty and the Beast stage show on Sunset Boulevard, too. I don't really see the need for another park for the classics, when there's already a park there which caters to this very theme/genre.

I don't think Disney is anywhere near a fifth gate. However, if there was going to be one, my gut-instinct tells me they would go with a DisneySea.

^This.

I hear Tokyo Disneysea is an absolutely beautiful park with much attention to detail. In fact, I bought a CD from Tokyo DisneySea over Christmas (mail order, I didn't actually go there) which has some really nice music on it (It's the 5th anniversary CD, 2 disc, etc).

Some of you may (or may not, in which case don't read this bit) be interested to note that Wikipedia (that fountain of knowledge) has a category for unrealised Disney attractions, including pages on WestCOT, Port Disney, Disney's America, Walt's original plans for EPCOT and more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:U ... ttractions

I'd be surprised if there were any short-to-mid term plans in the works for a 5th park at WDW. I'm also kind of wondering if they did add a fifth, what that'd drive the park hopper pass prices up to.

That said, I'd be willing to pay it if they put something in that was akin to DisneySea. I've also always liked the rumors of the so-called Beastly Kingdom - the more villain-themed park - but I'm not sure they'd ever do that. Something in the darker theming doesn't really say Disney, but at the same time there'd be a wealth of things to theme off of.

It seems as though the parks at WDW open about 10 years apart (plus or minus a few years).

Magic Kingdom - 1971
Epcot - 1982
Disney/MGM - 1989
Animal Kingdom - 1998

I wonder if that pattern will continue in the future. Has it really been 10 years already since Animal Kingdom opened?

I've heard speculation from cast members regarding a 5th since AK opened...they've always said more mature thrill rides. That said, WDW's main competition is Universal. The Magical Express was a creative way to discourage Disney guests from seeing the rest of Orlando (and taking their $$ with them), particularly Universal and SeaWorld which provide some different thrills than that provided by WDW. However, Disney will have to do more to respond to the threat posed by Universal and beat it at its own game if they want to continue to hold market share. My guess is that they'll be gunning for Universal's customer base by creating a park that uses a theme not yet represented in the Orlando area, completely Disney-ized of course.

Regardless, I agree that DAK and DHS should be improved. Both need more attractions and diversity.
