I don't remember ever seeing the quartet - they probably would have blended in to the crowd too much - but the 'opening ceremonies' I remember seeing on some days. I honestly don't remember ever seeing the flag ceremony, but I bet you could have if you timed it right, remember how the camera was aimed.
You could catch Fantasy in the Sky, too (though you couldn't see it very well, and you had to be lucky with the picture updates).
At one point they had a camera in Epcot too, because I remember watching the sun set on Spaceship Earth. That one (sadly) wasn't as interesting as the MK one.

i'm not sure if this is the actual reason, but from what i've heard and figured is that they felt it was a security risk...just too much info about how crowded the parks were or something. i mean, anyone could just go and see for themselves, or they could just estimate by the season...but who knows...
i do know that disney was thought to be a possible target for terrorism on 9/11, and i vaguely remember someone saying that the government contacted WDW and advised that they evacuate...but maybe that was just a rumor?

I don't remember there ever being a camera in AK (or MGM) but I could be wrong about that. As for the reason they were taken down, I've too heard the security risk idea, but I'm not entirely convinced it makes a lot of sense. It seems like if you wanted to do something 'bad', you'd go and look for yourself to be sure? I dunno.
When I did the Keys to the Kingdom tour, our guide had been working (and guiding) on 9/11 and she told us about how the parks were evacuated (or at least shut down and emptied). It was interesting to hear about the stuff they have in place; she showed us some of the maps and the 'guidelines' they have posted for evac procedures.

there was a cam in MGM I know. it pointed towards the Chinese Theater (pre-Hat) down Hollywood Boulevard (main entrance). I'll see if I can find the link again, as I recall seeing a time lapse video of the last couple of days before they removed it.DisBeamer wrote:I don't remember there ever being a camera in AK (or MGM) but I could be wrong about that. Oh cool. That'd be neat if you could find it js. I must just have never looked at it, or not enough to remember it. (Of course, it's hard to pry my attention away from MK and Epcot, even when we're there in person
).

I've heard the security risk as the reason, too. I think it would have to do with planning something on a large scale --- someone could easily confirm, daily, how exact Disney is with timing of things, such as pardes. The EPCOT cam doesn't pose such a risk and neither does the Mattercam, both of which are non-Disney cams. But, I think it also has to do with Disney wanting people to pay to see the magic.

Thanks for reminding me of this site! I used to check it daily as part of my "Disney fix" but then I stopped for some reason. It's great to see it up and running.Calypso wrote:The webcam is on today! And its gorgeous!
