Instacam On Then Off
Anbody notice that the Swan and Dolphin webcam was working on and off this morning? Anyone have any idea what is going on and when/if we can expect the webcam to be working again?
I no idea there was such a thing. Is there a link to the webcam stream? I assume you have a view of Epcot from it?

It was an awesome webcam --- part of my daily dose of Disney. Yes, the view is of EPCOT. It was cool to watch the progression of the removal of the wand from SE. The webcam went out approximately a month ago. Then, yesterday, it was on in the morning, then went black again.

Another Disney fanatic in my office (can you believe we get any work done?) emailed Weatherbug about the cam. She received the following reply:
"The camera is down for right now. It is being worked on, I do not have an approximate time line for you."
So, I guess there is some hope.
edit: Sorry... the email response came from Swan and Dolphin.

i didn't know this existed, either! aw, i hope it comes back soon!
does anyone remember anything about WDW hosting their own cam years ago? i think before 9/11? i vaguely remember seeing sites linking to it where you could see the parks...or at least a couple of the parks (epcot and MK)...
maybe i'm thinking of this one?

This webcam of EPCOT has been up for a quite a while but, yes, there was also one in MK looking down main street, but that was LONG ago. Here's someone's creative replacement: http://www.wdwlive.com/web-cam.html. Be sure to read the How It Works section --- its pretty cool!

wow, that's pretty amazing how they use footage...
ah, i knew there was a webcam years ago that was pretty great on main st.
i totally understand their reasons for taking it down, though...

wow, disbeamer...i never even realized that the old cam was that detailed! i guess i just figured it was from too far away or something to actually see the parade...like maybe aimed at the castle from afar or something...
i guess cuz most webcams i've seen of famous places (national parks or whatever) are kinda not that detailed.
that must have been amazing, though, to watch the parades and goings on of main st in real time!

It wasn't so much in real time, exactly, but it was close. I think it updated stills every minute, maybe every minute and a half? But it was a long shot of Main St from on top of the train station so while you couldn't make out people's faces or anything, you got a pretty good shot of the street.
It was really cool. You could watch the crowds start to gather around 2, then just before 3 there'd be long lines down the sides of the street, then a little after 3 the floats would appear (usually all of a sudden because they started down the street between updates, lol). Then they'd go poof again after about ten minutes.
I remember catching Spectromagic a couple of times, too, but that was always harder to see. I vividly remember refreshing madly between about 3:00 and 3:12 or so, though. In some ways it's good that it's off; it was a huge distraction.
