Is it just me, or does seem as though Space Mountain is broken down quite often? I hope that they improve the efficiency of the ride so that it doesn't 101 so much. It was broken down the last two times I went there. But I don't go to WDW too often, so maybe is was just bad luck on my part.

I can only recall one time that it was down on one of my trips. I used to go 2 or 3 times a year and always remember it working just fine. It's been about 3 years for me now and I'm going back next month so it better be up and running!

I have searched and can't find anything confirming this rehab. Not saying it won't happen, but does anyone have a link?

Seems like just a rumor for now.

Well, the original post is quoting a rumor article/post from Screamscape. I think that's the only place it was ever 'announced', unless something else came out about it and we missed it. I haven't seen it go by on Mouseplanet yet or anything, personally.

nothing about it on the offical operational updates page right now, either. Only "mountain" down is the yearly refurb/update to Splash Mountian going on from today (1/19/08) to February 17 (2/17/08). outside of that, no major refurbs in MK for the next 6 months or so...

 Woh! You scared me there for a second about Splash. I will be down there 2/23 to 3/1 and would hate to miss it so hopefully the rehab finishes on time.

The Splash one is pretty much just a yearly touch up (it's always January or February, it seems), so you should be in the clear. :)

Thanks, that's kind of what I thought. I have pictures, posted here somewhere I believe, of a past refurb and painting.

Personally, I like the idea of a SM rehab. The ride is quite jarring right now. I'm with everyone else on the TTA. It will be sad if they closed both. And seriously... when is the Speedway getting a rehab or a demolition? I mean, they could make them futuristic cars and have futuristic matboard cityscapes but right now it's just sort of there, with no real special Disney touch...

Actually, I read on Mouseplanet that they just started trying out two different kinds of battery powered cars at the Tomorrowland Speedway. Better late than never at least.

The Autopia in Hong Kong has battery operated cars (at least they seemed to be battery powered). They were really quiet and I actually missed the "Harley" sound of the original Disneyland cars. Also in Hong Kong, the steering wheels are on the right side!

We seem to have gotten off the original Space Mountain topic

Most of the time SM seems to be up in running, but when I was there in August of 2005, it was down ALOT. I was on a solo trip. SM was on my list of things to do ASAP, but it was down. Over the course of the day, I kept coming back to it, and it was still down. By nightfall, it was running again. One bonus: I rode TTA through it and the LIGHTS were ON in SM! Way cool!!

As for an extensive rehab, it needs it! Fortunately, as Disney showed with Pirates and HM, their extensive rehabs can improve things without destroying their charm.

SM being down is the busiest time for TTA. It's so funny how many people rush to ride it to see SM with the lights on. It is pretty cool. :D
