Christmas Budget

Post by wdwannabe » Dec Fri 07, 2007 10:26 am

Just wondering if ya'll are spending less on Christmas this year? I know the economy isn't that great in some areas...just trying to feel how things are going. My dh and I own our own buisness and things are not doing very well here, we have had a drop in sales. People are only doing what they have too.

I know I am. That also might have something to do with the fact that I have no idea what to get my parents. They don't make lists, but my brother does so he will get things.....I can't say what because he lurks on these boards from time to time.

I think we're spending less on actual Christmas gifts, but it's partly because WDW is sort of a joint present my husband and I are giving each other. Other years though we probably would have spent a bit more on presents regardless. My brother and sister in law did request for the first time ever that we not exchange gifts, though. Which is good because like the good Doctor and his parents, I have no idea what to get them.

less this year, gas and heating price increases are too scary to contemplate in the budget, especially with tonight's storm, winter it is finally!!!

Why oh why are parents to hard to buy for? My parents are 85 and 84.. ..and inlaws! Lists...I've never gottne one from them...and have asked. Maybe we should put our heads together and get some suggestions going. Gift cards....are my last resort...I love getting those.

Disbeamer, are you from Atlanta? I live near Athens... Luck duck, :D Disney, wish I was going! When is your trip?

We're spending on average about the same this year as we have in years past. We really keep the focus on what the season is all about (Christ's birth), but we do spoil the kids a bit each Christmas.

We will be spending the same on Christmas this year, but will spend more when we get to WDW in Jan/Feb.

UK prices £1 per litre for gas. Approx £5 per gallon. Thats around $10 US a gallon at todays exchange rate.

I'm spending money on Christmas cards this year. I know my parents are thinking of getting annual passes for DLR, so that's our gifts for Christmas.

I'm near Atlanta, yup (though technically I'm from Toronto - I live here for work now. :) ). And heading out this week! So excited!

I'm hoping to find something parent-present-related at WDW. Conveniently they like Disney too; of course they're the ones who took me and got me hooked when I was a kid so maybe it's not that surprising after all.

Less this year. The price of everything else is going up! I also feel like people have lost sight of what Christmas is all about. I don't like how commercialized it has gotten. Christmas is about Christ's birthday and spending time with family and people you love. That's just my opinion though. :)

I agree commercialized it has become...we are traveling to Ohio to visit family this year, and we said that this is our gift to you, us comming up.

btw, akrulz, I do spoil my dd too...

Joe90, I hope that you don't drive too much! gosh, $10 a gallon! Is it that price all over the UK? off topic, but , we like watching MI5, we get it on BBC America.

We're spending about the same or more than we did last year. This is more a factor of my wife and I being married and living in the same house for the second Christmas (as opposed to our first last year). I was also able to get a good job this year and we've been pretty fiscally responsible this year.
Our family is pretty easy, as everyone has their certain tastes (dad-in-law=USC, dad=Surfing/Disney, mom=something warm and comfy, mom-in-law=Snoopy, etc.) I've heard of people doing this formally with their families for gifts. Just ask everyone to make of list of their top 3 genres, brands, sports teams, etc. and share it with the rest of the family. This way you can always have at least an idea of what everyone likes :).

I'm managing well this year. I'm going to Disney the week before Christmas so most of my expenses will go there.

money's really tight around our house this year. mymsister is unemployed, and I took a pay cut when I took a different job (hopefully to go up in the first month or so of the new year). I got a few things for some really close friends and family, but nothing quite as big as last year.
