I've only seen the Christmas decorations on TV, but one day I'll manage to see it all first hand.

Wow! I remember the Samantha Brown special where she helped decorate the gingerbread house. I wish I could see it for myself!

i saw the house last year! It was amazing, and there were so many hidden mickey's on it!

When my wife and I saw it in person we were stunned. The thing is huge and amazing! And you're right, there are so many hidden Mickey's on it. It is something you really have to see to fully appreciate. Tv makes it look great, but if you have the time, you've got to see it!

Saw this in person a couple of years ago, and looking forward to seeing it again in a couple of weeks! As impressive as it is, though, I think I prefer the carousel at the Boardwalk. Mmmchocolate.

One of our favorite places to go that we really had no reason to bother going when we were down there at Christmastime two years ago was the GF lobby. I got some amazing pictures, both from the ground, and the landings up above.

Will definitely be getting a bird's-eye view of the gingerbread house again next week!

I'm curious; does the gingerbread house SMELL as good as it looks?

First off I love the fact that it's also a store. The other side of it is open and they sell "Gingerbread" stuff out of it. Singles, and little replicas of the house, and ginger candy...

Second it's more a wooden house "covered" with gingerbread. Which I don't care for.

Third they pipe in gingerbread smell. So yes it smells like gingerbread baking.

all gingerbread houses/displays of the size like that of the GF are always supported with a rigid frame of wood. It would be impossible for real gingerbread to stand upright without it.

Yes I know gingbread isn't a the best structural material. But in this case it's very obvious it's a GB covered wooden structure. If you watch the food network challenges you can build some quite impressive structures and totally hide the support system.

Food network challenges (which are really cool

) aside, I think it would have to be wood in this case so that they could have people standing inside it. I don't know what the gingerbread house building code is, but I would think in order for them to shove cast members in there to sell stuff, they'd have to have certain safety standards. I'm sure they could build a really big all-cookie house just for display, or more-cookie house, I guess, if it was just for display and didn't need any moving parts/didn't need to be able to stand up to use by people. A lot of the structures they create for challenges are very impressive in hiding the 'guts', but they don't have to survive as long or as much activity. It's probably easier from a safety standpoint, as well as a durability standpoint, to just use a wooden frame playhouse (or ... mini-house) and put gingerbread shingles on it.

That all said, I agree it's less impressive somehow in person than they make it look on tv. Which I suppose means the tv special does its job well. It's still pretty cool, though.
