Wow, room rates are ridiculous!
I was checking on room rates at the Polynesian Resort and I swear the computer gave me sticker shock! I just want to stay in a room for a few nights, I don't want a timeshare! $300 for a room without a view and $400 for a lagoon view? I'm thinking I should have a kid so we can put him/her down as the deposit.
Anyway, does anyone know of any specials of Florida resident discounts for hotel accomodations at any of the lagoon resorts? I was looking forward to a stay there, but not at those rates.

any of the hotels around the lagoon are going to cost top-dollar. Those are all the deluxe resorts. It's expensive yes, but you get alot out of it. you may pay $400/night to stay in one, but that's nothing compared to where I used to work.
The Cloister at Sea Island on the Georgia Coast (midway between Savannah and Jacksonville, FL) can cost up to $600/night. The Lodge (which is owned by the same company) is a 5 star, 5 diamond resort which costs approx. $750/night. These prices are in the slow time, too. And, there's not HALF as many things to do at Sea Island that there are to do at WDW...
Just to put it into perspective for you. Myself, I'd pay $400/night for all the fun I could have, even if I couldn't afford it...

Yes, if i can't find a good deal, I think I might spend some nights off site and some nights on site. Whenever I go.. sigh...

Ugh..maybe cheaper, but not as cool. Remember hotel guest get complimentary transportation, and have access to extra hours in the park, a very nice perk.QuickGold wrote:Sometimes it's smarter to just stay offsite.
I never stay outside. Its not worth it. I would rather pay for the convenience of being inside Disney.
You really have to shop the rates to find the best times to go. IF you are planning to go during a peak season, be prepared to pay. If you can schedule your trip for a slow time you will save big time.
They are ways to save even during peak time. I get annual pass. After 5 days in the park I've basically paid for my AP, and any future visits are park admission free. More importantly I save big on room rates.
I just went down the end of January. I bought my annual pass before we got there, and was able to book our rooms at a nice savings. We saved approx $400 on the rooms. This accounted for 1 of our AP. Now when we go back in Sept, I will get a room discount and not have to pay for park admission.
This may not work for everyone.. you need to make the AP pay for its self by going at least two weeks per year. Something I never seem to have a problem doing

Just something to think about.
You also have to remember, any stay in a resort on the lagoon, is a top dollar resort. If you are flexible with your choices you can also snag a deal.

I'm considering a trip in May and can save $100 total if I stay offsite (with car rental and I'm under 25). I just don't see how I can give up that $100, which would be needed to pay for food.

Thanks for the input all. Since I know I won't get over to Orlando more than once a year, an AP is out of the question unfortunately. So I guess it comes down to a question of worth. If we stay at WDW, I wanted to stay at least two nights, but I'm a bit uncomfortable parting with $800 + expenses. I'm in a quandry, no doubt.

Two suggestions for hotels near WDW.
Hampton Inn Main Gate and Homewood Suites are just out side WDW at the intersection of 192 and I4. You can get a cab for a few bucks to to WDW just call the front desk and they call the cab for you. The Homewood Suites are like a small apartment too.

They have some good information about deals and packages, as well as the 2005 season rates.
