I doubt that is a minority opinion. You can't beat Cronkite.

A depressing exit for a great ride. :(

Makes me miss Earth Station. It was great. A futuristic City Hall. Screens everywhere advertising everything. It was beautiful. What the $%#! is wrong with the park producers at EPCOT? They officially changed the name to Epcot. Not even EPCOT or EPCOT Center anymore. Let's hope they leave Spaceship Earth alone. Put all the thrill rides at MGM. EPCOT doesn't need a rollercoaster. It needs to go back to its roots and reinvent the new old EPCOT. Get rid of those tombsstones in front of SSE, bring back WorldKey Info Kiosks. Bring back the cutting edge of todays technology. If all I want are coasters, there are parks for that. You can't go anywhere else in the world and ride Horizons, SSE, World of Motion, Journey into Imagination, Test Track, etc. That's what makes EPCOT a wonderful thing. It inspires and stands on its own. Where else in the world can you ride to the top of a Geodesic Sphere? What happened to the lasers? What happened to projecting the Earth on Spaceship Earth at night? Why did Image Works become an interactive shopping center?? What next commercials during Illuminations??? They are going to far with their plans for EPCOT. When I drive the EPCOT Beam I still call it EPCOT Center. I refuse to let it go.

You said it! This January I noticed a lot of CM's were calling it Epcot Center - there are so many out there that miss the old Epcot and the unique rides and experiances.

When I came out of Spaceship Earth earlier this month into the old Global Neighborhood, my friend and I did a :o  . We couldn't believe that there was absolutely NOTHING there. I agree, at least put in a gift shop.

Maybe I'M in the minority, but I really like Irons' narration over Cronkites... I do like Tomorrow's Child, though...

I didn't even think about it, but you're right, a gift shop might be nice. A "sale" section would be nice - stuff they wanted to unload at a discount from all of WDW.

But . . . alas . . . I'm sure it would not be very Disneyesque to have a bargin gift shop in a disney park. :?

Looks like there are some rumors about Spaceship Earth getting a rehab...

From http://www.dtroops.com

MISSION: EARTH: D-Troops hears that Spaceship Earth could be going under refurbishment as early as October 2005. But from the reports we’ve been given, fans of the current attraction may not be too happy with the replacement - or at least with what's been tossed around. Check back throughout the week for details, as well as potential new developments.

Has anyone heard any details??????

This rumors' been flying around for some time. They were thinking of doing a rollercoaster in the dark, but that turned out to be too expensive . . . so, who knows what they have in mind. It'll definitely be interesting to find out.

Guess I'll have to ride Spaceship Earth as much as possible this July!

A while back I heard a rumor that Spaceship Earth may be converted into a motion simulator type attraction? :o I hope they don't mess with SE to much. :(

from what I understand, they can't remove the omnimover/track because that's what supports the sphere. The only thing they can do is update the animatronics. So, a motion simulator or rollercoaster would be out of the question...

at least, that's how I understand it...

Yeah - and that rumor surfaces every few years it seems. From what I've seen the whole idea has been canceled for good.

Why they would mess with the "landmark" ride in the park is beyond me but I really doubt they would do it. If they mess with SE they will have a load of ticked off dedicated Disney fans to have to deal with - they saw how bad the reaction has been to Imagination, they never should have wasted the money once, let alone have to rehab it twice. And people still are miffed about WoM and Horizons...

And I would suspect the track is built into the supports, it is amazing how that all stays together - at least from the engineering standpoint...
